Assurance Manager – Established Regional CPA Firm | Up to $150K + Bonus | 100% Remote

Location: Fully Remote – Northeast Candidates Preferred

Compensation: Up to $150,000 base + 10–15% discretionary bonus

Requirements: Active CPA | 5+ years public accounting experience | 1–2 years supervisory experience

About the Firm:

Join a nearly 100-year-old independent CPA and business advisory firm with deep roots in the Northeast. This is not a PE-backed rollup or a firm chasing the next merger—they've made a deliberate, long-term commitment to staying independent, and it shows in everything from their culture to their client relationships.

With roughly 100 professionals and an average employee tenure exceeding 9.5 years, this firm has built something genuinely rare in public accounting: a place where people actually stay and build careers. Nearly every Partner came up through the ranks internally. That's not a talking point—it's a track record spanning decades.

What makes this firm different isn't just their history. It's how they operate today. They're forward-thinking about technology, intentional about workload distribution, and serious about the associate experience in a way that most firms claim but few actually deliver. Nearly a century in business, and they're still thinking ahead of the curve.

Their client base spans startups, owner-operated businesses, nonprofits, and companies generating hundreds of millions in revenue—giving their assurance team exposure to a diverse and sophisticated book of work.

The Role:

As Assurance Manager, you'll lead audit and assurance engagements across a varied client portfolio while developing staff and playing an active role in client relationships. You'll work alongside accessible, long-tenured Partners who are invested in your growth—not just your billable output.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and review audit, review, and compilation engagements across multiple industries
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop senior associates and staff through the full engagement lifecycle
  • Serve as primary day-to-day client contact, building trust and delivering clear communication throughout the engagement
  • Identify technical issues and coordinate resolution with engagement partners
  • Contribute to firm initiatives including business development, thought leadership, and process improvement
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and team development efforts

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of public accounting experience with a strong assurance foundation
  • 1–2 years managing or supervising audit teams and engagements
  • Active CPA license (required)
  • Solid technical knowledge across audit methodology, financial reporting, and GAAP
  • Nonprofit audit experience a plus given the firm's client mix
  • Experience with CCH software preferred
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage client relationships independently

Why This Opportunity Stands Out:

  • Independence by Choice – A firm that's grown organically for nearly a century and has made a firm, deliberate decision to stay that way. No PE, no merger pipeline, no uncertainty about what the firm looks like in five years.
  • They Actually Manage Busy Season – Workloads are distributed thoughtfully across teams. They don't spread associates thin, they temper busy season hours strategically, and they track the results: average tenure over 9.5 years speaks for itself.
  • Multiple Career Pathways – Not everyone wants to make Partner, and this firm embraces that. Director and other leadership tracks exist alongside the traditional Partner path, with genuine precedent behind each one.
  • Partners Who've Been in Your Shoes – Every Partner came up through the firm as an associate. That shapes how they mentor, how they lead, and how seriously they take succession planning.
  • Forward-Thinking Culture – This firm invests in technology and wants to stay ahead of industry trends, not follow them. They approach client service and employee development with the same innovative mindset.
  • 100% Remote – Fully remote role with flexibility built in. Northeast-based candidates preferred.
  • Reasonable Hours – Annual billable targets of 1,300–1,600 hours (55–65% chargeable).
  • Business Development Upside – Incentive program for origination, so rainmaking gets rewarded.
  • Sign-On Bonus Available – For the right candidate.

Total Compensation Package:

  • Base Salary: Up to $150,000 (based on experience)
  • Annual Bonus: 10–15% discretionary
  • Sign-On Bonus: Available for qualified candidates
  • Health Benefits: Medical coverage with employer contribution
  • Retirement: 401(k) with 50% employer match up to a defined percentage
  • PTO: 3 weeks vacation + 2 weeks sick time + paid holidays
  • Insurance: Life and short-term disability
  • Professional Development: Continuing education, licensure support, and internal development resources
  • Business Development Incentive: Additional earning potential for origination activity
  • Technology: CCH platform

Ideal Candidate Profile:

You're a technically grounded assurance professional who's done the work, managed the teams, and is ready to plant roots somewhere that will invest back in you. You want a firm with a real identity—one that's been around long enough to have earned it, but still thinks like it has something to prove. You value quality over volume, you take mentorship seriously, and you're looking for a place where the career path you want actually exists—whether that's Partner, Director, or something in between.
