Title: Remote Audit Manager | Independent CPA Firm | Partner Track | Work-Life Balance

Location: 100% Remote (Must be located in the US & authorized)

Compensation: Up to $170k base + 10–15% performance bonus

Requirements: 5–6 years public accounting audit experience, CPA Required, 1–2 years at Manager level

We are a nationally recognized, Top 100 accounting and advisory firm headquartered in the Chicago area — and we are looking for an experienced Audit Manager to join our team in a fully remote capacity, open to candidates anywhere in the United States.

Founded over 50 years ago, this firm has built its reputation on quality work, deep client relationships, and a culture that has remained remarkably intact through decades of change in the industry. We serve a sophisticated and diverse client base including privately held businesses, global public companies, entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals, and not-for-profit organizations — across financial reporting, assurance, advisory, and risk and controls.

This is not a firm chasing growth through acquisitions or positioning itself for private equity. Our expansion has been organic and intentional — over 18% growth in the past two years — and we plan to keep it that way. When you see average Partner tenure approaching 20 years and a median employee tenure that reflects genuine loyalty, that tells you everything about what it's actually like to work here.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • 100% Remote — Work from anywhere in the US, in your own time zone, on a schedule built around your life. You are joining an established remote culture — this isn't a trial run
  • Compensation up to $170k base + 10–15% performance bonus— plus a full benefits package and a firm that genuinely invests in its people
  • Truly Independent — No PE, No Acquisition — This firm has no interest in outside investment or being absorbed into a national platform. The close-knit culture, the quality-first mentality, and the Partner relationships you'll build here are not going anywhere
  • Real Partner Track — Not a Talking Point — Advancement from Manager to Senior Manager to Partner is clearly defined and actively supported. Partners here are hands-on and technically engaged — they mentor, not just delegate. With Partner-level succession on the horizon, the timing for joining at the Manager level could not be better
  • Work-Life Balance That's Real — Busy season here is busy — but it's contained. This is not a firm where crunch runs from January through October. When the season ends, it actually ends
  • Benefits Worth Talking About - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Pre- and post-busy season gatherings — remote employees are flown in to connect with the broader team
  • Annual firm-wide trip to premier destinations — the entire firm, not just top performers (most recently, the Caribbean)
  • Professional development and certification reimbursement
  • Ranked among the top accounting and advisory firms in the US by Accounting Today, with recognition as a national leader in both audit and tax practice quality

About the Role

As an Audit Manager, you will lead engagements from planning through issuance, manage and develop audit staff, and serve as a trusted point of contact for clients across a variety of industries. You will work directly alongside Partners who are hands-on and technically engaged — not removed from day-to-day work. This is a relationship-driven environment where audit professionals are valued for the quality of their judgment, not just the volume of their output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple audit engagements simultaneously, ensuring quality, timeliness, and compliance with applicable standards
  • Supervise, coach, and review the work of audit seniors and staff
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as the primary day-to-day point of contact
  • Lead engagement planning and risk assessment processes
  • Identify issues, communicate findings clearly, and present practical solutions to clients and firm leadership
  • Contribute to staff development and participate in firm-wide initiatives

Qualifications

  • Active CPA License required
  • 5–6+ years of public accounting audit experience, with at least 1–2 years at the Manager level
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP and audit standards
  • Proven ability to manage multiple engagements and client relationships simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Public accounting firm background required
