Tax Manager – Generalist (Fully Remote | Washington-Based Firm)

Role Overview (Remote):
As a Tax Manager (Generalist), you’ll lead client engagements and deliver tax compliance and consulting services across a broad mix of individual and business clients (S corps, partnerships, LLCs, and C corps). You’ll supervise staff, manage timelines, elevate client experience, and collaborate with managers and partners on planning and advisory work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, prepare, and review federal and state tax returns for individuals and business entities (S corps, partnerships/LLCs, C corps).
- Lead engagement execution: scope, budgets, timelines, and deliverables; ensure high-quality work and client satisfaction.
- Perform and/or review technical tax research; clearly frame issues and present concise conclusions and recommendations.
- Provide proactive tax planning and advisory to business owners and executives (entity selection, basis/loss utilization, credits & incentives, depreciation, cash-vs-accrual, etc.).
- Oversee and mentor staff; delegate effectively, review work, and provide coaching/feedback.
- Collaborate with internal specialists (SALT, international, trust/estate, valuations) as needed.
- Monitor workflow, actuals vs. budget, and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Maintain strong client relationships and communicate status, issues, and opportunities in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting preferred); Master’s in Accounting or Tax a plus.
Experience
- 6–10+ years of public accounting experience with broad exposure to individual and business entity taxation.
- Demonstrated success managing engagements and supervising staff.
- Strong review skills across 1040, 1120S, 1065, and 1120 filings; familiarity with multi-state a plus.
- Solid client-facing communication and advisory mindset.
Licenses/Certifications
- Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
