As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and strategic Gift, Estate, and Trust Tax Director to join our leadership team and help guide our clients through complex wealth transfer planning and compliance.
Position Summary
The Gift, Estate & Trust Tax Director will serve as the firm’s subject matter expert on all aspects of gift, estate, and trust taxation. This role involves managing and reviewing complex tax filings, advising clients on wealth transfer strategies, leading client engagements, and mentoring staff. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for building strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the preparation and review of federal and state gift (Form 709), estate (Form 706), and fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041)
- Advise clients on estate and wealth transfer planning, including charitable giving, generation-skipping transfer tax, and family trust structures
- Collaborate with attorneys, wealth managers, and other advisors to implement tax-efficient estate planning strategies
- Provide high-level technical guidance on estate, gift, and trust taxation to clients and internal teams
- Research and analyze complex tax issues, and communicate findings in a clear, actionable manner
- Support business development through relationship building and participation in networking or client events
- Mentor, train, and develop junior staff and managers in the gift, estate, and trust practice area
Qualifications
- CPA and/or JD/LLM required; advanced degree in taxation preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience with gift, estate, and trust taxation, preferably in a public accounting or private wealth setting
- Strong knowledge of federal and state estate/gift tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and family offices
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and client service skills
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple client relationships and projects simultaneously
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
