Position: Tax Manager

Compensation: Up to $160k base + $3k-$10k+ discretionary bonuses

Requirements: 5+ years public accounting experience, CPA required

A well-established, locally-owned CPA firm in the greater Nashville area is seeking a Tax Manager to join their growing team. With 60+ employees and over six decades serving Middle Tennessee, this firm has built a reputation for technical excellence and a culture that genuinely prioritizes both professional growth and quality of life. Recognized as a "Best Place to Work" by a major regional business publication, this isn't just marketing speak—it's the daily reality of working alongside a close-knit team that values relationships as much as results.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned tax professional ready to step into management at a firm where people actually stay. You'll lead client relationships across a diverse mix of individuals, partnerships, trusts & estates, and corporate entities, working within a Tax Department supported by experienced partners who actively mentor and develop their managers. The work is challenging and varied—spanning Construction, Real Estate, Non-Profit, and other industries—but the approach is sustainable, collaborative, and built around reasonable expectations rather than extraction.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Work-Life Balance That's Real: Summer half-day Fridays, 1,300 billable hour target at Manager level (significantly below industry norms)
  • Culture You Can Feel: Close-knit, "work hard, play hard" environment with team volunteer events and genuine camaraderie—not forced fun
  • Stability & Growth: Family-friendly firm with deep roots and a track record of long-term employee retention
  • Competitive Compensation: Base up to $160k + discretionary bonuses ranging to $10k+ based on performance
  • Strong Benefits Package: 401(k) with 4% match, medical coverage, long-term disability
  • Modern Tech Stack: CCH Access and CaseWare platforms
  • Global Resources: Member of MSI Global Alliance for international client support

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage diverse client portfolio emphasizing HNW individuals, partnerships, and trust & estate work
  • Lead and mentor tax staff and seniors, reviewing complex returns and providing technical guidance
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships as a trusted advisor
  • Participate in tax planning and consulting engagements
  • Collaborate with audit and advisory teams on integrated client solutions
  • Stay current on tax law changes and communicate impacts to clients

Qualifications

  • 5+ years progressive public accounting experience at a CPA firm
  • CPA required
  • Strong technical knowledge across individual, partnership, and trust taxation
  • Experience managing teams and client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Track record of delivering quality work while maintaining professional balance

This role is ideal for someone who wants to continue growing their technical expertise and leadership capabilities—but in an environment that respects your time, values your contributions, and treats you like a person rather than a billable resource. If you're tired of the Big 4 or Top 100 grind and want to join a firm where "Best Place to Work" isn't aspirational but actual, let's talk.
