Remote NFP Audit Manager | Boutique Independent CPA Firm | No Billable Hours | Up to $150k

Location: 100% Remote (Anywhere in the U.S.)

Compensation: Up to $150,000 base + semi-annual bonus up to 10–12%

Requirements: 5+ years NFP audit experience | Private foundation experience required | CPA required

About Us

We are a boutique, independently owned CPA firm with decades of history built exclusively around nonprofit organizations. This is not a generalist firm with an NFP practice. Every client we serve, every engagement we run, and every professional on our team is focused entirely on the nonprofit sector — foundations, sports organizations, environmental organizations, journalism nonprofits, schools, and more causes that actually matter.

We are in active growth mode — new managing leadership is in place, the client base is expanding, and we are hiring an NFP Audit Manager to grow with us. This is a ground floor opportunity with a clear and fast path to Partner for the right person.

The Opportunity

As an Audit Manager, you will lead nonprofit audit engagements from planning through issuance — serving as the primary client relationship owner and a key member of a small, high-performing team. This is not a role where you manage the work while someone else owns the client. You are the relationship — and leadership will invest in you accordingly.

What Makes This Firm Different

  • No Billable Hours — Ever — We do not track them. Not against a reduced target. Not against a softer metric. You are measured on the quality of your work and your client relationships — full stop. That is genuinely rare in public accounting at any firm size
  • Busy Season That Stays Manageable — Hours run 40–45 during busy season. Not 55. Not 60. Not "it depends." The firm is deliberate about protecting its people and it shows in how engagements are staffed and managed
  • 100% NFP — No Exceptions — Every client is a nonprofit. You will work alongside people who chose this space intentionally and know it deeply — not generalists who handle NFP work on the side
  • Private Foundation Depth — A significant portion of the client base is private foundations — the most technically complex segment of the nonprofit sector. If this is your specialty, you are in the right room
  • AI-Forward Environment — The firm actively incorporates AI tools to handle prep and administrative tasks — freeing up time for the advisory and relationship work that actually matters
  • Semi-Annual Bonuses — Up to 10–12% paid twice a year. Not an annual afterthought — a structured part of how the firm rewards its people
  • Boutique Size, Real Autonomy — Small firm, close-knit team, no micromanagement. You will have genuine ownership of your work and your client relationships from day one
  • Active Growth Mode — New managing leadership is in place and the firm is expanding. The right person joining now has a real and fast path to Partner
  • Little to No Travel Required — The firm communicates with clients virtually. No road warrior expectations
  • Independently Owned — No PE — Not entertaining acquisition conversations. The culture and client relationships here are protected

What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage NFP audit engagements across a wide range of nonprofit entity types — from planning through issuance
  • Serve as the primary client relationship owner on active engagements
  • Review workpapers, financial statements, and audit reports for accuracy and compliance
  • Mentor and develop senior associates and staff
  • Collaborate directly with managing partners on client strategy and firm growth initiatives
  • Stay current on nonprofit accounting standards, GAAP, and evolving compliance requirements
  • Contribute to firm-wide growth initiatives as the practice expands under new leadership

What We Are Looking For

  • Active CPA required
  • 5+ years of NFP audit experience — this must be the majority of your background, not something you do occasionally
  • Private foundation experience required — this is the core of the role
  • Experience managing audit engagements end-to-end and supervising audit staff
  • Comfortable serving as primary client contact on active engagements
  • Previous remote work experience strongly preferred
  • Stable tenure at prior firms — commitment and consistency matter here

What We Offer

  • Base salary up to $150,000, commensurate with experience
  • Semi-annual bonus — up to 10–12%
  • Unlimited PTO — and a culture that encourages you to use it
  • 401(k) — 3% employer match
  • Medical, dental, and vision
  • No billable hour tracking — ever
  • Fully remote with flexible schedule
  • No micromanagement — real autonomy from day one
  • Clear and fast path to Partner as the firm grows under new leadership
