REMOTE SALT Tax Director / Senior Manager – National CPA Firm ($185K–$245K+)

A fast-growing, nationally recognized CPA firm based in the Southeast with a 30+ year track record is expanding its State & Local Tax (SALT) practice and adding experienced SALT Senior Managers and Directors to support continued growth across its national client base.

The Role

This role sits at the core of the firm’s SALT practice. You’ll be fully embedded in SALT engagements — not splitting time between general tax and occasional state work.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading SALT engagements across multi-state clients
• Reviewing and overseeing complex SALT compliance and consulting work
• Advising on:
• Multi-state income and franchise tax filings
• Nexus determinations and state tax exposure analysis
• State apportionment and sourcing methodologies
• State audit defense and controversy support
• SALT considerations tied to entity restructuring, growth, and transactions
• Managing and reviewing work across SALT income, franchise, and related filings
• Serving as a senior advisor to clients on SALT planning and risk mitigation
• Mentoring and developing Managers, Seniors, and Staff within the SALT group
• Working closely with Partners on technical matters, workflow planning, and practice growth

The role is flexible and can be shaped around your strengths — whether you lean more technical, client-facing, planning-driven, or a blend of all three.

What They’re Looking For

• 10+ years of public accounting experience with a strong SALT focus
• Deep experience in multi-state SALT compliance and consulting
• Strong background in:
• Nexus analysis
• State apportionment and sourcing
• SALT planning for operating businesses
• State audits and controversy support
• Prior experience managing teams and client engagements
• Ability to operate independently at a Senior Manager or Director level
• Active CPA or JD strongly preferred

Comp & Benefits

• Base salary: $185,000 – $245,000+ (commensurate with level and experience)
• 100% remote (no required office presence)
