Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Full-Charge Bookkeeper to join our CPA firm in an on-site role. This position is responsible for managing the complete accounting cycle for multiple clients—from daily transaction processing through financial reporting and year-end close.

This is a hands-on role for someone who doesn’t need babysitting, can spot issues before they become problems, and keeps client books clean enough that CPAs don’t have to fix them later.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledgers, bank accounts, credit cards, and loan accounts
  • Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow tracking
  • Process and oversee payroll and related tax filings
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes
  • Review and clean up client books, correcting errors and inconsistencies
  • Manage and file sales tax and other regulatory filings
  • Prepare workpapers and support schedules for tax preparation and audits
  • Communicate directly with clients to request documentation and resolve issues
  • Identify discrepancies, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and firm procedures

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5+ years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, preferably in a CPA or public accounting firm
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Required: Advanced, hands-on expertise in QuickBooks (Online and/or Desktop)
  • Strong Excel skills, including ability to analyze and reconcile data
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines independently
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and accountability

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience in a CPA or public accounting firm environment
  • Experience with payroll platforms (Gusto, ADP, or similar)
  • Knowledge of sales tax, multi-state filings, and compliance requirements
  • Experience cleaning up complex or neglected books
  • Familiarity with additional accounting systems (e.g., Xero)

Work Environment

  • On-site, in-office position (not remote)
  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven CPA firm environment
  • Direct collaboration with CPAs and accounting staff
  • High level of ownership and responsibility

Compensation & Benefits (customize as needed)

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Retirement plan options
  • Continuing education and professional development

What Success Looks Like

  • Books are accurate, current, and audit-ready at all times
  • Financial statements are delivered on time with minimal CPA adjustments
  • Issues are identified and resolved before they escalate
  • Clients trust the numbers without second-guessing
  • You operate independently and keep everything moving
