Automotive Design Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Automotive Design Engineer to support the design and development of engine and powertrain components. The ideal candidate will have strong automotive design experience, CAD skills, and knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes.
What You’ll Do
- Create and update 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and work instructions.
- Participate in design reviews and present design progress and results.
- Develop solutions to meet cost, weight, durability, and performance targets.
- Work with engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing teams.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure parts are delivered on time and meet quality requirements.
- Support improvements to engineering and design processes.
- Review and benchmark similar designs to ensure competitive cost and performance.
- Support projects throughout the automotive design and development process.
- Travel locally as needed (approximately 10%).
- Work overtime as needed (approximately 20%).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

4+ years of automotive design or development experience.
- Strong CAD skills and knowledge of GD&T.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of conventional, hybrid, and electrified powertrains.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive, "can-do" attitude.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive engine design and development experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- Experience designing engine components and systems, including:
- Lubrication systems
- Belt systems
- Timing chain covers
- Fuel systems
- Cooling systems
- Intake and exhaust systems
- Knowledge of aluminum and iron castings, thermoplastics, stampings, and forgings.
- Experience with Creo, WBDM, FEA, CFD, GT-Power, or similar engineering software.
- Hands-on engine or powertrain assembly experience.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and engine/transmission manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of DRBFM.
- Understanding of Quality Management and Supply Chain Management principles.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Experience with production engineering.
