Position Summary:

The Pricing Manager is perfect for the individual who is looking to be on the front line of strategic pricing and see their work have an immediate impact through their efforts.

The Pricing Manager works closely with the Director of Client Value & Practice Management on the development, coordination, management and execution of the firm's pricing and client value strategies. The role will provide advice to lawyers regarding realization/profitability concepts and pricing/budgeting/scoping best practices. This role will also assist with annual rate adjustment analysis and oversee company ongoing rate/fee maintenance program. This position requires continuous learning through legal industry organization/society membership and keeping pace with developments related to pricing, profitability, reporting, technology, and data analysis.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Uses advanced financial modeling to develop and implement matter, client, and portfolio-level pricing strategies that evaluate pricing structures and their impact on the firm's bottom line.
  2. Collaborates with attorneys to create innovative pricing solutions that address client needs while meeting firm financial targets.
  3. Analyzes financial performance and variance reports and provide financial analysis on all aspects of firm production. Analyze the firm's historical data and advise, propose, create, and subsequently assess alternative or innovative pricing arrangements.
  4. Examines pricing arrangements at the firm, department, practice, and client level, including analysis of prior work, estimates and leverage. Advise attorneys of underperforming fee arrangements and any noncompliance with approved pricing structures, then apply corrective actions as needed.
  5. Assists in identifying high-potential areas of growth, changes in client activity, and opportunities for improving profitability and efficiency. Cooperate with firmwide business professionals and attorneys to employ programs and practices that increase revenue and reduce fee erosion.
  6. Stays apprised of financial trends and alternative/innovative pricing best practices and recommends improvements, including evaluating market pricing tools and external sources of information.
  7. Presents educational sessions for attorneys to enhance their understanding of effective pricing approaches, negotiation strategies, Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs), and other value-based proposals, ultimately boosting the firm's financial literacy, pricing, and profitability awareness.
  8. Develops project/matter planning and budgeting techniques, processes, and tools to help scope, price, and staff matters.
  9. Provides the Business Development and Marketing team with informed responses for the pricing portions of client pitches and RFP responses.
  10. Supports annual rate adjustment analysis and oversees the ongoing monitoring and management of all types of rate exceptions.
  11. Delivers decision support analysis and advises firm leadership on alternative or innovative pricing arrangements, billing structures, and rates.
  12. Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Pricing Manager must have a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field. 5+ years of strategic pricing experience in the legal or professional services sector. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and BI reporting tools such as Power BI. Understanding of Aderant a plus. Ability to connect report data and statistics with business outcomes for analysis and forecasting. Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills, demonstrating confidence in explaining complex concepts to professionals of different backgrounds. Has the ability to work independently and maintain flexibility with respect to assigned tasks due to changing deadlines and deliverables. The Pricing Manager must have a First-in-Service orientation, commitment to meeting deadlines and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. A team player who motivates and educates others is essential. Must have a high level of interpersonal, communication, presentation, and collaborative skills in addition to being flexible to work outside business hours as required.
