Head of Technical for a leading food manufacturer based in Kent. This role acts as the conscience of the business and will hold ultimate responsibility for ensuring technical compliance within all aspects of the business.  Responsible for ensuring that technical policies and procedures comply with and focus on food safety, legality, quality, hygiene and other relevant standards and customer requirements.

Reporting to the Executive Technical Director, responsibilities for the role will include:

·      Setting the strategy and be responsible (directly & indirectly) for food safety, HACCP and other technically led training

·      Pro-actively managing the food safety element of all new product development

·      Continuously planning and preparing the business for and leadinging all external audits e.g. BRC.

·      Supporting the technical team and their professional development

·      Setting and reviewing technical targets for the technical team

·      Completing food safety and quality projects as necessary

·      Providing leadership support focused on driving costs out of the business whilst ensuring technical standards are maintained and improved upon

Essential / Desirable skills include:

·      Customer management experience essential

·      Degree level in Food Technology, Food Science or Food Safety Management or equivalent, with appropriate qualifications to demonstrate continuing professional development and competence.

·      Ideally with Lead Assessor, HACCP and Professional Trainers qualifications with demonstrable evidence of active external network and relevant professional memberships

·      Experience of managing teams at a senior level over a period of time including substantial experience as a Lead Technical Manager with responsibility for technical business strategy and overall technical performance

·      The ability to “sell” technical vision passionately to new and existing customers, teams and individuals, as well as being prepared to listen and concede position if a better solution is found and will support the new way forward.

·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·      The ability to work well as part of an overall team and to work constructively and pro-actively as a member of the on-site Technical Management and Supervisory team.

·      Full Driving Licence preferred
