Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) - Lewiston, ID


Full-Time | 80 Hours Per Pay Period


Travel Not Required | On-Call Schedule Included


Position Overview

As a Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA), you will provide advanced perioperative care as a vital member of the surgical team. Working alongside surgeons, you will assist in operative procedures, contribute to patient assessments, and ensure exceptional care throughout the perioperative process. This role also requires fulfilling scrub and circulating responsibilities in the operating room when not functioning as an RNFA.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance during operative procedures, including hemostasis, tissue handling, suturing, and closure of subcutaneous and skin layers as directed by the surgeon.
  • Participate in pre-operative assessments and ensure proper documentation of patient care activities.
  • Maintain expertise in surgical techniques and comply with the scope of practice outlined by the Idaho Nurse Practice Act.
  • Assist with scrub and circulating duties in the operating room when not scheduled in the RNFA role.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, product evaluation, and cost-containment activities.
  • Contribute to staff education, scheduling, and professional development efforts.
  • Ensure effective communication with patients, families, and staff to promote positive relationships and resolve conflicts.


Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed (or licensure eligible) to practice as a Registered Nurse in Idaho.
  • Documentation of RNFA course completion.
  • CNOR certification (Certified Perioperative Nurse).
  • Three years of perioperative RN experience.
  • Must meet allied health credentialing requirements for medical staff privileges.


Work Hours

  • Regular Hours: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Call Schedule: 1 day/week and 1 weekend/month with $4.00/hour while on call.
  • Call Back: Minimum of 2 hours paid at time and one-half.


Shift Differentials (based on majority of hours worked):

  • Evening Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM): +8%
  • Night Shift (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM): +11%
  • No weekend differential.
