Senior Health Benefits Consultant - Tempe, AZ (Hybrid)


Position Overview

The Senior Health Benefits Consultant will play a key role in delivering a diverse range of group health benefits consulting services to clients. This role offers significant client interaction, project leadership, and the opportunity to engage in emerging areas of health benefits through special projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health benefits, data analysis, and project management, with advanced Excel proficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage vendor procurement assignments (RFPs) within budget, analyzing responses from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives.
  • Develop in-depth familiarity with vendor programs and competitive differentiators.
  • Collaborate with Client Relationship Managers (CRMs) to establish project scopes and provide analytical and consultative support.
  • Assist CRMs with client presentations and deliverables.
  • Partner with clinical teams on wellness and clinical programs.
  • Analyze complex data sets, including claims experience, financial performance, budget projections, and renewal analysis.
  • Prepare and present reports and memoranda summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy and quality of work completed by other analysts.
  • Lead ad hoc reports and special projects as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Science, or a related field, plus 10+ years of experience in health benefits, managed care, or underwriting. (Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Advanced Excel skills (VBA programming preferred).
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Collaborative mindset and effective team player.


Preferred Skills

  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including VBA programming.
  • Experience with wellness programs, clinical benefit analysis, and innovative vendor solutions.
