Job Summary
The Farm Equipment Operator is responsible for performing a wide range of field operations to support crop production. This role involves operating and maintaining various types of tractors and farm machinery; preparing and cultivating fields; supporting irrigation activities; and assisting in the harvesting, transporting, and handling of crops. Daily duties vary based on crop needs, weather conditions, and operational priorities.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of tractors and farm equipment to till soil, work ground, prepare land, plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, and harvest crops.
- Operate equipment including (but not limited to): tractors with various implements, sprayers, combines, backhoes, mowers, and track hoes.
- Load agricultural products onto non-CDL farm trucks and transport them on the farm or to designated storage facilities.
- Assist with all irrigation activities, including:
- Laying irrigation pipe and puncturing pipe at designated intervals
- Setting up, operating, and maintaining irrigation equipment
- Clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches
- Operating well motors and pivot systems
- Draining excess water from fields and monitoring water supply to ensure proper crop hydration
- Load seed into planters; properly mix chemicals; and load chemicals into sprayers.
- Change combine cutting heads and configure equipment based on crop type.
- Rouge fields and use hand tools to remove undesirable plant varieties, debris, and other obstructions from fields.
- Perform welding, mechanical repairs, routine maintenance, and general cleanup of farm buildings, barns, sheds, pivot points, and all equipment.
- Use hand tools and specialized agricultural tools to repair, clean, and service farm machinery and vehicles.
- Maintain organized, clean, and safe operational areas.
- Adapt to changing duties and work locations as needed.
Requirements
- Ability to safely operate a wide range of tractors, implements, and farm equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to work irregular or long hours based on seasonal needs.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Experience with irrigation systems preferred.
