Mechanical Design Lead – Modular Power Solutions
Location: Hybrid
Travel: Up to 20%
Compensation: $113,000–$133,000 base salary DOE
About the Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Lead to drive the mechanical design of modular power systems, with a primary focus on E-Houses, electrical skids, PDCs, UPS plants, and related data center power modules. This is a critical role supporting continued modular product expansion and will serve as a key link between proposal engineering, design execution, and cross-functional project delivery.
The right individual will bring strong hands-on mechanical design experience in modular electrical infrastructure, along with the leadership capability to guide a small team and coordinate with internal stakeholders and third-party design resources. This is not a generic mechanical engineering role. It is intended for someone who understands the design, layout, integration, and practical execution of modular power systems in real-world manufacturing and deployment environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of modular power solutions, including E-Houses, electrical skids, PDCs, UPS plants, and related power modules
- Own the mechanical design process from concept development through execution and release
- Manage, mentor, and guide a small design team of approximately 2–3 engineers/designers
- Collaborate closely with proposal engineering to support technical scope development, quoting efforts, and design feasibility
- Coordinate with internal engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure designs are accurate, practical, and executable
- Interface with third-party design partners and external resources when required to support project delivery
- Develop and refine mechanical layouts, equipment arrangements, access and serviceability considerations, and enclosure/skid packaging strategies
- Ensure designs account for manufacturability, transport constraints, integration requirements, and field deployment realities
- Support standardization initiatives while maintaining flexibility for custom modular applications
- Contribute technical leadership in support of product development, design quality, and continuous improvement across the modular solutions platform
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience
-
8+ years of mechanical design experience in modular power systems, industrial buildings, or skid-mounted equipment
- Strong candidates with approximately 6+ years of highly relevant experience may also be considered
- Demonstrated ownership of the mechanical scope for at least two of the following:
- E-Houses / modular electrical buildings
- PDCs
- MV/LV skids
- UPS plants
- Data center power modules
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks
- Experience leading projects from early concept through execution in a fast-paced engineering or manufacturing environment
- Ability to work cross-functionally with proposal engineering, internal design teams, manufacturing, and outside partners
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to balance technical detail, schedule, and execution needs
Preferred Qualifications
-
Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure
- Experience with data center modular power platforms
- Familiarity with redundancy, uptime, maintainability, and mission-critical design considerations
- Experience supporting modular electrical infrastructure in environments where schedule, deployment, and constructability are major drivers
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience over a small engineering/design team
Ideal Background
This role is best suited for a mechanical engineer who has worked in environments involving:
- Modular electrical buildings
- Packaged power systems
- Mission-critical power infrastructure
- Skid-mounted industrial systems
- Data center power modules
- Integrated power equipment enclosures and layouts
Candidates with purely general mechanical design, building HVAC design, or unrelated product design backgrounds may not be the right fit unless they also bring direct experience in modular power or integrated electrical equipment packaging.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role will come from the ability to:
- Take ownership of mechanical design scope with minimal hand-holding
- Lead a small team effectively while remaining technically engaged
- Partner well with proposal engineering and cross-functional stakeholders
- Produce designs that are not only technically sound, but also buildable, shippable, serviceable, and deployable
- Help scale and strengthen the company’s modular power offering through practical engineering leadership
Work Environment
- Hybrid work structure
- Up to 20% travel as project and business needs require
- Work may occur across office, manufacturing, and project-related environments
- Must be comfortable supporting teams and projects in a fast-paced, growth-oriented setting
