Field Service Switchgear / Circuit Breaker Technician
Location: Dallas-Fort Worth, TX (Field-Based)
Travel: Up to 75% (regional with occasional nationwide support)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Up to $60.00/hr + OT + Per Diem
Overview
A leading power services provider is seeking a Field Service Switchgear / Circuit Breaker Technician to support testing, maintenance, and repair of critical electrical distribution equipment across commercial and industrial facilities.
This role is heavily field-focused, supporting commissioning, troubleshooting, and emergency response for low and medium voltage systems. Technicians will operate independently or as part of a team to ensure reliability of mission-critical infrastructure.
Ideal candidates are hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable working in dynamic environments with a strong emphasis on safety and customer interaction.
Key Responsibilities
Field Service Execution
- Perform on-site testing, maintenance, and repair of LV and MV switchgear and circuit breakers
- Execute troubleshooting and diagnostics on electrical distribution systems in live environments
- Support commissioning and startup activities for new and existing systems
Testing & Diagnostics
- Conduct electrical testing including:
- Insulation resistance (Megger)
- Hi-Pot testing
- Primary and secondary injection
- Functional and operational checks
- Identify failure points and implement corrective actions in the field
Customer-Facing Operations
- Interface directly with customers, facility teams, and project stakeholders
- Provide clear communication on findings, scope changes, and timelines
- Represent the company professionally on all job sites
Travel & Response
- Support regional travel with occasional extended assignments
- Participate in emergency call-out or rapid response work as needed
Qualifications
- 5ā10+ years of experience in electrical field service, testing, or maintenance
- Strong working knowledge of switchgear and circuit breakers (480Vā35kV)
- Experience in field diagnostics and troubleshooting under live conditions
- Proficiency with electrical testing equipment and procedures
- Ability to read and interpret one-lines, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Background in NETA, power services, OEM field service, or industrial maintenance preferred
- Willingness to travel and work flexible schedules
