Senior Circuit Breaker / Switchgear Technician

Location: Lewisville, TX (Shop + Field Hybrid)

Travel: Up to 25% (project-based, occasional overnight)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Up to $60.00/hr + OT + bonus potential


Overview

A leading provider of power systems services is seeking a Senior Circuit Breaker / Switchgear Technician to support both in-shop repair operations and field service work.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role focused on diagnostics, rebuilds, and testing of LV/MV/HV breakers and switchgear, with opportunity to mentor junior technicians and contribute to operational excellence within a best-in-class breaker shop environment.

Ideal candidates bring strong technical depth across multiple OEM platforms and are comfortable owning complex troubleshooting and rebuild scopes from teardown through final testing.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Execution

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, rebuild, retrofit, and testing of circuit breakers and switchgear (LV through HV)
  • Work across major OEM platforms including GE, ABB, Westinghouse, Powell, and ITE
  • Execute full teardown and reassembly of breakers, contactors, and associated apparatus
  • Conduct electrical testing including insulation resistance, hi-pot, primary/secondary injection, and functional checks

Shop & Field Operations

  • Support both climate-controlled shop repairs and on-site field service work
  • Lead breaker testing and repair scopes at customer sites as needed
  • Ensure all work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior technicians
  • Support training and development of team members
  • Drive best practices in troubleshooting methodology and documentation

Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering and project teams to improve workflows and turnaround times
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within shop operations


Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of hands-on experience with circuit breakers and switchgear (480V–25kV+)
  • Strong background in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of power distribution equipment
  • Experience with breaker rebuilds, retrofits, and testing procedures
  • Proficiency using testing equipment such as:
  • Megger
  • Hi-Pot
  • Multimeter
  • Primary/secondary injection
  • Relay test sets (preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-lines
  • Prior experience in a breaker shop, field service, or NETA-style environment strongly preferred
  • Trade school, military, or apprenticeship training is a plus
