Responsibilities & Expectations

This role is based in a climate-controlled breaker shop known for its strong safety culture, organization, and high standards. The Senior Circuit Breaker Technician will lead advanced shop work as well as support occasional field assignments.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform advanced work on low-, medium-, and high-voltage circuit breakers across major OEM brands (GE, Westinghouse, Powell, ABB, ITE, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot, rebuild, retrofit, test, and repair switchgear and electrical apparatus
  • Perform teardown and reassembly of breakers, contactors, and related components
  • Service and test equipment including:
  • High-voltage switchgear up to 3000A (SF6, vacuum breakers, ATS systems, 13.8kV/60Hz, 11kV/50Hz)
  • Medium-voltage switchgear up to 5000A (vacuum breakers, ATS systems, 34.5kV, 4.16kV, 6/6kV)
  • Low-voltage switchgear up to 5000A (air breakers, 480V/60Hz, 400V/50Hz)

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and guide junior technicians on best practices and safety protocols
  • Lead on-site breaker testing and repair projects (occasional overnight travel required)
  • Work alongside engineering and project management teams to improve shop processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to operational excellence

Qualifications & Competencies

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical training (trade school, apprenticeship, military) strongly preferred
  • Minimum 7+ years of hands-on experience working with 480V–25kV circuit breakers
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting and repairing complex breaker and switchgear systems
  • Experience with OEM breaker manufacturers or similar high-stakes environments highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical power systems
  • Proficiency with testing equipment including:
  • Megger, DMM, Hi-Pot testers, oil dielectric testers, relay test sets, primary/secondary injection equipment, cable fault detectors, oscilloscopes
  • Exceptional ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Level 3 PEARL Certification (or equivalent senior-level certification) required; ability to mentor others toward certification is a plus
