Project Executive- Mechanical

Location: Pasadena, CA

Position Summary

A leading mechanical construction and building systems contractor is seeking a Project Executive to support business development, regional growth, and project leadership efforts. This role is responsible for identifying and developing new revenue opportunities, cultivating client relationships, building and converting a strong prospect pipeline, and overseeing successful project execution.

The Project Executive will also play a key leadership role in guiding Project Managers and Project Engineers, helping improve team effectiveness, project performance, and professional development.

Reports To: Sales Leadership

Supervisory Responsibilities: None directly, but strong leadership and mentorship responsibilities across project teams

Key Responsibilities

Business Development / Sales Leadership

  • Identify, target, and develop new business opportunities within the assigned region
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective clients and projects
  • Develop consultative relationships with prospective clients to understand business objectives and project needs
  • Drive regional revenue growth and profitability by expanding client relationships and increasing project opportunities across multiple mechanical scopes
  • Develop regional bid and pursuit strategies, including participation in bid review and risk management processes
  • Maintain accurate prospect, target account, and client activity records

Project / Operations Leadership

  • Maintain project management responsibilities with existing clients as needed
  • Support all aspects of project pursuits, sales, and execution
  • Provide high-level budgeting support for prospective opportunities
  • Oversee full-cycle project delivery, including client meetings, contract development, preconstruction coordination, and project completion
  • Optimize team assignments by aligning projects with the appropriate Project Managers and Project Engineers
  • Support successful execution of projects ranging from mid-sized to large, complex mechanical construction work

Market Growth / Strategic Planning

  • Identify and evaluate market opportunities, target verticals, and strategic growth initiatives
  • Monitor competitor activity, market conditions, and industry trends
  • Help define business development strategies aligned with broader company growth objectives
  • Expand presence in both existing and new markets

Client / Industry Relationships

  • Prospect, qualify, and build relationships with both current and prospective clients
  • Host client visits, presentations, and tours to demonstrate company capabilities and value
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate effectively with department leadership, peers, and project teams

Leadership / Talent Development

  • Support recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of Project Managers and related team members
  • Mentor and assist in the professional development of project staff
  • Help improve project management effectiveness, consistency, and operational efficiencies
  • Partner with leadership and HR to help foster a positive and productive work environment
  • Manage team performance in alignment with company expectations and risk tolerance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sales Management, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in estimating, design, and management of large HVAC/mechanical construction projects
  • 10+ years of leadership experience managing teams
  • Experience overseeing projects generally ranging from approximately $5M to $25M+
  • Strong ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment on when to engage leadership
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client engagement, and strategic sales growth
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Experience with construction/project management and business systems software is preferred

Preferred Background

  • Mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or related building systems experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in preconstruction, estimating, and complex project pursuits
  • Familiarity with ERP, estimating, bid management, document control, and collaboration tools is a plus

Travel

  • Travel to regional offices, client sites, and job sites as needed based on business demands

Compensation

$150k – $250k base salary

Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, skills, certifications, education, and work location.
