Licensed Land Surveyor / Professional Land Surveyor (PLS – North Carolina)
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a North Carolina Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to join their team in Coats, NC. This position is responsible for managing and performing land surveying projects, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and high-quality deliverables. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, at least three years of professional experience, and the ability to work collaboratively with field and office teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform, oversee, and certify land surveys in compliance with North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCBELS) standards
- Prepare, sign, and seal boundary surveys, plats, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, easements, legal descriptions, As-Builts, FEMA Elevation Certificate, etc.
- Manage survey projects, including scope, schedules, and deliverables
- Supervise and support survey technicians and field crews
- Conduct deed research, boundary analysis, and resolution of discrepancies
- Review and approve survey data, calculations, CAD drawings, and reports
- Coordinate with engineers, developers, attorneys, municipalities, and other stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintain professional licensure and required continuing education
Required Qualifications
- Active North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license (required)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a licensed professional land surveyor
- Strong working knowledge of boundary law, surveying principles, and NC regulations
- Proficiency with modern survey equipment (GPS, total stations, data collectors)
- Experience with CAD and surveying software (e.g., Civil 3D, Carlson, Trimble, Leica, or similar)
- Ability to work onsite in Coats, NC
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Land Surveyor licenses in South Carolina and other states (a plus)
- Experience with boundary surveys, plats, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, easements, legal descriptions, As-Builts, FEMA Elevation Certificate, etc.
- Prior project management or supervisory experience
- Experience coordinating with permitting agencies and municipalities
