Project Manager – Commercial Construction
Location: Based in Nashville Office. Project Site / Field-Based (project assignments may vary by region)
Position Overview
A nationally recognized commercial construction organization is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead large-scale construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This individual will serve as the primary operational leader responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality expectations and contract requirements.
The Project Manager will collaborate closely with field leadership, project engineers, owners, design consultants, subcontractors, and internal departments to drive project success. This role requires a strong background in commercial construction operations, strategic planning, schedule management, procurement, financial oversight, and client relations.
The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and capable of balancing high-level project strategy with day-to-day operational execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Operations
- Lead overall project execution for complex commercial construction projects.
- Coordinate project startup activities including staffing plans, logistics, scheduling, procurement strategy, and technology deployment.
- Partner closely with field supervision teams to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and successful project delivery.
- Identify potential project risks, schedule impacts, and operational challenges while implementing proactive solutions.
- Maintain strong communication with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders throughout all phases of construction.
- Support long-term planning efforts while ensuring field teams have the resources necessary to execute work efficiently.
Safety Management
- Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Ensure safety requirements are integrated into planning, scheduling, and execution efforts.
- Participate in project safety initiatives, meetings, and enforcement efforts alongside field leadership.
- Hold project teams and trade partners accountable to established safety standards and policies.
Financial & Schedule Oversight
- Monitor project budgets, forecasting, cost reports, productivity metrics, and schedule performance.
- Review financial reports and margin projections regularly to identify trends and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Oversee purchasing, subcontract administration, vendor coordination, and contract management activities.
- Collaborate with estimating and operations teams during procurement and buyout processes.
Quality & Commissioning
- Support implementation and execution of project quality control procedures.
- Ensure project-specific QC processes are established and maintained throughout construction.
- Coordinate with commissioning teams and support turnover activities to ensure successful project completion.
- Maintain quality expectations with subcontractors and project teams throughout all phases of work.
Team Development
- Mentor and support Project Engineers and other project staff.
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience managing commercial construction or design-build projects.
- Field experience is a must. This person will be managing a team of up 20 or more on the jobsite.
- Strong understanding of construction operations, project controls, scheduling, procurement, and contract administration.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel to active project sites.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced project environments.
- Proven ability to lead teams, delegate responsibilities, and drive accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms such as:
- Primavera P6 or Asta
- Bluebeam
- Prolog or similar project management systems
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience supporting large, complex commercial or mission-critical construction projects.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity including walking jobsites, climbing stairs/ladders, stooping, crouching, and lifting materials or equipment as needed.
- Regular use of computers, office equipment, and construction technology platforms.
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, schedules, and field documentation.
- Work environment may include exposure to varying weather conditions, construction noise, and active jobsite environments.
