Project Manager — Electric Transmission & Grid Infrastructure- West
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support development and delivery of electric transmission and grid infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include managing overhead and underground transmission lines, substations, grid modernization initiatives, and related energy infrastructure from early planning through permitting, construction support, and compliance.
This role supports projects advancing grid reliability, system expansion, and clean-energy integration across western transmission markets in the Western United States.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Manage full project lifecycle from early feasibility and routing through construction support and closeout
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering, environmental, land/ROW, permitting, and construction
- Develop integrated schedules and manage scope, budget, and deliverables
- Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies tied to environmental constraints, outage windows, permitting timelines, and stakeholder coordination
Siting, Routing & Environmental Planning
- Lead transmission siting and routing studies including alternatives analysis, constraints evaluation, and preferred alignment selection
- Oversee environmental field programs and impact analysis
- Integrate environmental, engineering, and constructability considerations into routing decisions
- Ensure environmental compliance during pre-construction and construction including mitigation, monitoring, reporting, and contractor oversight
Permitting & Regulatory Coordination
- Develop permitting strategies across federal, state, and local agencies
- Manage agency coordination, approvals, and technical documentation
- Support right-of-way (ROW) strategy, landowner coordination, and survey access
- Maintain regulatory defensibility and schedule alignment across approvals
ISO/RTO Planning & Grid Integration
- Understand ISO/RTO transmission planning processes including reliability, deliverability, and policy-driven needs assessments
- Align project development with transmission planning, interconnection considerations, and grid expansion priorities
Client Engagement & Business Development
- Support proposal development including scopes, schedules, and budgets
- Participate in client meetings and industry engagement
- Build long-term relationships with utilities, engineering partners, and project stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental planning, engineering, project management, or related field
- 10+ years supporting electric transmission or grid infrastructure projects
- Experience with transmission project lifecycle including siting, permitting, routing, construction support, and compliance
- Strong understanding of regulatory permitting processes and utility infrastructure development
- Experience with ISO/RTO planning frameworks preferred
- Proficiency with project scheduling tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar)
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to travel as needed
