Project Manager – Civil Construction (K-12 / Public Works)
Location: San Diego, CA (Remote + Jobsite Presence)
Overview
We are seeking a Project Manager (PM) to support and lead civil construction projects in the San Diego region, with a primary focus on K-12 school projects and additional exposure to public works, military, and commercial projects.
This role is ideal for a mid-level Project Manager who has strong project execution experience and is ready to take on increasing ownership of project financials, client relationships, and overall delivery.
The position will initially focus on school projects and will operate in a remote + field-based environment, requiring a high level of accountability and communication.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Delivery
- Manage day-to-day execution of civil construction projects from kickoff through closeout
- Support development and tracking of project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain progress
- Assist in managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and project requirements
Financial & Commercial Support
- Support project cost tracking, forecasting, and budget management
- Assist with change order pricing and cost control efforts
- Contribute to maintaining overall project profitability with guidance from senior leadership
Client & Team Coordination
- Maintain strong communication with clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders
- Support relationship development with school districts and public agencies
- Participate in project meetings and provide clear updates on status and risks
Growth & Development
- Build toward full P&L ownership and independent project management over time
- Gain exposure to business development and client expansion efforts
- Take initiative in identifying opportunities to improve project outcomes and processes
Qualifications

5–8+ years of experience in civil construction or public works projects
- Exposure to K-12 school projects or public agency work preferred
- Experience supporting or assisting with project financials (budgeting, cost tracking, change orders)
- Ability to work independently in a remote + field environment, while still collaborating with leadership
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with project tools such as Excel, Bluebeam, and scheduling software
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred

Compensation
- Target base salary: ~$125,000, depending on experience and qualifications
