Project Engineer- HVAC / Plumbing / Process
Position Overview
This role partners closely with a Project Manager and reports to the Sales Manager, serving as a key technical resource throughout the lifecycle of assigned HVAC, plumbing, and process-related construction projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating technical activities, facilitating communication among internal teams and external stakeholders such as clients, design professionals, and suppliers, and supporting the successful delivery of projects from preconstruction through closeout.
This position provides hands-on exposure to estimating, scheduling, and design coordination within a fast-paced design-build environment, utilizing modern construction technologies, digital tools, and BIM-based workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Project Manager in the following areas:
- Draft and prepare project-related documentation including proposals, correspondence, subcontract agreements, change orders, and internal and external communications.
- Create, manage, and track essential project records such as RFIs, submittals, procurement logs, shop drawings, and other required deliverables under the direction of project leadership.
- Participate in and help coordinate internal and external meetings, including project kickoff sessions, BIM coordination, and scheduling or progress meetings.
- Assist with estimating activities, including quantity takeoffs, requesting and reviewing vendor and subcontractor pricing, assembling complete bid packages, and preparing change order documentation.
- Monitor field progress and jobsite quality as needed, applying technical knowledge to help resolve installation challenges and operational issues.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Support purchasing and procurement efforts, including subcontractor and vendor buyouts, tracking material orders, and ensuring timely delivery of equipment and materials.
- Contribute to project financial controls, including labor projections, installation tracking, invoice verification, and preparation of billing documentation.
- Assist with project closeout activities such as operation and maintenance manuals, commissioning support, as-built documentation, and warranty processing.
- Maintain open communication with the project management team regarding schedule impacts, cost concerns, and potential risks, and help drive resolution of issues as they arise.
- Utilize company-standard engineering and construction technologies to support planning, design coordination, value engineering reviews, and evaluation of alternate technical solutions.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with external partners including customers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and trade partners.
- Collaborate closely with internal departments such as construction, engineering, fabrication, purchasing, accounting, and legal to support overall project execution.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Mechanical engineering or a closely related technical focus is strongly preferred.
- Career development opportunities are available, with advancement to higher-level Project Engineer or senior roles based on performance, experience, and demonstrated leadership ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Experience with business and construction management software is preferred, such as JDE, IFS, BidTracer, FastEst, Bluebeam, Box, Smartsheet, or similar platforms.

Work Schedule
This is a non-exempt position, Monday through Friday. Standard work hours fall between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM, including a one-hour lunch break and two additional breaks. An eight-hour workday is expected, with overtime as needed based on business demands.
Travel
Travel may be required between the primary office, regional offices, and active job sites depending on project needs.
Compensation
Hourly wage range: $28.84 to $57.69 per hour.
Compensation is based on individual qualifications, including relevant skills, experience, certifications, education, training, and work location. Total compensation may include additional benefits beyond base pay.
