Commissioning Manager- Transmission

Location: Inland Empire, California


A leading infrastructure and energy contractor is seeking a Commissioning Manager to support a major HVDC transmission and converter station project in Southern California. This individual will be responsible for directing and executing all commissioning-related activities to ensure systems are installed, tested, and transitioned into operation in accordance with project requirements, safety standards, and schedule commitments.

This position plays a critical role in coordinating across engineering, construction, and client teams to deliver fully operational systems on complex, large-scale utility projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership of commissioning efforts from initial planning through final system turnover
  • Develop detailed commissioning strategies, execution plans, and schedules in coordination with project stakeholders
  • Define and manage scopes of responsibility between internal teams and subcontractors
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure system readiness
  • Oversee pre-functional inspections, functional testing, and system energization/start-up activities
  • Review engineering deliverables, specifications, and drawings to confirm commissioning requirements are incorporated
  • Manage commissioning documentation, including test procedures, reports, punch lists, and turnover packages
  • Serve as a primary interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors during commissioning phases
  • Track, prioritize, and resolve deficiencies to ensure timely system completion
  • Align all stakeholders on commissioning scope, sequencing, and schedule milestones
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards
  • Support operations and maintenance training as systems transition to the client
  • Participate in project meetings and provide regular progress updates to leadership
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and project controls requirements
  • Perform additional duties and special assignments as needed

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (or equivalent field experience)
  • 5–10+ years of experience managing commissioning efforts on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and/or control systems
  • Demonstrated success overseeing commissioning on complex, multi-discipline projects
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Relevant commissioning certifications (e.g., AABC, ASHRAE, or equivalent) preferred
  • Experience working directly with clients and stakeholders in a project delivery environment
  • Background in utility, substation, or large infrastructure projects required
  • Experience with HVDC systems or converter stations strongly preferred

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $150,000 annually (based on experience)

  • Willingness to travel as required, up to 100% depending on project needs
