COMPANION / CAREGIVER ACTIVE ALZHEIMER’S PATIENT


Location: Short Hills, NJ (primary) with travel to NYC, Florida (Jan–Mar), and the Adirondacks (summer)

Compensation & Benefits: Competitive compensation package, based on experience.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM or 10:00 AM–6:00 PM, with occasional overnights as needed. Flexibility required.

Travel: Regular trips to NYC (1–3x weekly); summer trips in the Adirondacks; winter trips in Florida. Car and separate accommodations provided, in Florida and the Adirondacks.

Position Overview

A family in Short Hills, NJ is seeking a warm, experienced, and reliable Companion / Caregiver to provide long-term support to a gentleman living with Alzheimer’s. This position combines companionship, light caregiving, driving, and household support — including light cooking — to ensure an active, engaging, and structured routine. The role offers the opportunity to become a trusted long-term member of the household. (Light caregiving- should include assistance with his morning and evening routine when needed, including showering, shaving, getting dressed)

Key Responsibilities

·      Provide daily companionship and engagement to encourage activity and routine.

·      Prepare breakfast and handle light cooking for daily meals. Expected to keep the house tidy, meaning dishes, cleaning up etc. from the day

·      Daily driving, including regularly to NYC (1–3x weekly) and on trips to the Adirondacks and Florida. Car provided.

·      Administer medications responsibly and on schedule.

·      Support a safe, structured, and positive daily environment.

·      Provide occasional overnight coverage as needed.

·      Provide family members with written daily updates

Candidate Requirements

·      Prior experience working with Alzheimer’s patients.

·      Valid driver’s license; confident driving in NYC, NJ, and on longer trips.

·      Energetic, engaging personality with a compassionate, supportive approach.

·      Ability to prepare light, healthy meals.

·      Flexibility to travel for extended periods (Florida in winter, Adirondacks in summer).

·      Dependable, discreet, and adaptable to evolving needs.

·      Seeking a long-term role with stability and commitment.

·      Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal; tech savvy  and needs to be responsive to text and email.
