Lawyer – Charities & Not-for-Profit Organizations

Location: Remote (Ontario or British Columbia preferred)

Practice Area: Charities & Non-Profits

Compensation: Competitive salary + lucrative performance-based upside

About the Firm

We are a modern, entrepreneurial law firm built to serve clients with clarity, agility, and deep domain expertise. Our team advises startups, businesses, and non-profit organizations across Canada through a remote-first, tech-enabled model that blends traditional legal depth with modern business practices.

As one of the few firms in Canada with a specialized focus on charities and not-for-profit law, we have developed a strong reputation for helping mission-driven organizations navigate incorporation, compliance, governance, restructuring, and strategic legal decisions. We combine legal excellence with modern operational tools — making us a natural fit for organizations that expect both quality and efficiency from their outside counsel.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join our Charities and Not-for-Profit Practice as our third legal hire. This role presents a rare opportunity to step into a growing, high-demand sector where few firms have true specialization. The incoming lawyer will have immediate access to a wide-open market, modern lead generation tools, and the backing of a firm with strong credibility in the space.

This is a fully remote role, ideal for a lawyer who wants to focus on impactful work while building a rewarding and sustainable practice — without the burden of client acquisition.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide legal counsel to charities, foundations, non-profits, and social-purpose organizations across a range of matters including:
  • Incorporation and structuring
  • CRA compliance and registration
  • Governance, bylaws, and board advisory
  • Mergers, wind-ups, or restructuring
  • Grant agreements and fundraising strategy
  • Employment, risk, and general counsel support
  • Leverage a steady stream of inbound opportunities and firm-generated leads to grow your practice
  • Play a role in shaping the firm’s presence in this sector by contributing thought leadership, client education, and best practices
  • Collaborate with a lean, high-performing team focused on modernizing how legal services are delivered

What We’re Looking For

  • A licensed lawyer in Ontario or British Columbia
  • Demonstrated experience working with charities and/or not-for-profit organizations, either in private practice or as in-house counsel
  • Strong ability to deliver clear, strategic, and practical advice
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and genuine interest in mission-driven work
  • Self-sufficient, collaborative, and motivated to build within a growing practice

Why This Role is Different

  • Specialization in a high-potential, underserved market with limited competition and significant demand
  • No requirement to bring your own book – clients and opportunities are already in motion
  • Tech-enabled, modern firm infrastructure to support your work and client delivery
  • Significant earning potential through a performance-based model that rewards growth and impact
  • Remote-first flexibility and a culture focused on trust, excellence, and autonomy
