Compensation: Starting at $100,000/year + benefits, with a future profit-sharing program planned.

Our client is a family-owned paving and patching company operating for over 15 years in the North Okanagan. With approximately 20 employees, they provide high-quality asphalt paving, patching, and prep services to municipalities, contractors, and residential clients across the region. Their team is tight-knit, driven, and focused on delivering excellent workmanship and customer service.
As the North Okanagan continues to grow, so does the demand for paving, infrastructure upgrades, and new construction. They have more opportunity than they are currently capturing—and they're seeking the right leader to help take the operations and team to the next level.
Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced Paving Superintendent (Working Foreman) to lead their paving, prep, and patching crews. This role requires a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent people skills, and the ability to maximize crew performance and job profitability.
You will be responsible for daily crew organization, scheduling, site coordination, and ensuring safety and workmanship standards across all jobs. This is a key leadership role that works closely with ownership, administration, sales, and external partners.
This position will require a leader capable of guiding and developing existing staff, while also being able to recruit additional skilled personnel if needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead and supervise all paving, prep, and patching crews.
- Maintain strong crew morale, performance, and continuity.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and discipline where required.
- Navigate potential resistance to leadership changes with professionalism and clarity.
- Recruit additional team members from your network if staffing needs arise.
Project Planning & Daily Scheduling
- Organize multiple jobs per day, ensuring efficient crew allocation and movement.
- Coordinate job sequencing, equipment use, and site readiness.
- Work closely with the Job Coordinator for logistics, timing, and updates.
- Ensure jobs are completed on schedule and within budget.
Quality Control & Workmanship
- Ensure all paving and patching work meets company standards.
- Oversee compaction, layout, prep, mat quality, drainage, and site cleanup.
- Troubleshoot any field issues and provide on-site solutions.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce strict safety standards across all crews and job sites.
- Ensure all workers follow proper PPE, traffic management, and equipment protocols.
Communication & Coordination
- Act as the primary point of contact for all crew members.
- Liaise between field teams, administration, sales, management, and external partners.
- Maintain relationships with asphalt plants, gravel pits, dump truck providers, and municipal contacts.
Operational Excellence
- Participate in creating or refining daily operational processes.
- Identify opportunities for improved scheduling, efficiency, and resource utilization.
- Provide input on potential sales or business development ideas as capacity increases.

Qualifications & Experience:
Required
- 5+ years experience in paving operations (supervisory or foreman-level).
- Strong leadership experience with proven ability to motivate and grow teams.
- Hands-on technical knowledge of asphalt paving, prep work, and patching.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and manage multiple jobs simultaneously.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and efficient job execution.
- Willingness to relocate to the North Okanagan, if not local.
Preferred
- Experience managing resistance or leading teams through change.
- Successful track record recruiting and developing field staff.
- Familiarity with municipal work, residential paving, and commercial contractors.
- Valid driver’s license (Class 3 or higher an asset).
