MEOPAR has been committed to the operations of the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS) (www.cioos.ca) since its formation and is now developing a national Coordination Office. This Office will work closely with the three CIOOS regional associations to make Canadian ocean data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) for all ocean users.
Overview of the Role
We are seeking a DevOps - CIOOS at MEOPAR, who will work closely with the technical teams distributed across the regional partners to streamline, maintain, and develop the CIOOS cyberinfrastructure and ensure cohesive nationwide operations in support of national goals. The DevOps will be instrumental in the development of new tools that will assist in data transformation into the CIOOS common standards for interoperability.
Your areas of responsibility will include, but are not limited to:
- Update, maintain, and improve the continuous delivery of core CIOOS services including the Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network (CKAN) open access data management platform
- Update and maintain CIOOS’ ERDDAP data server
- Update, maintain, and improve key data access and data integration tools (CIOOS Data Explorer and Metadata Entry tools) in collaboration with partners across Regional Associations
- Evaluate emerging (including AI-based) solutions to optimize system monitoring, incident response, and automation in deployment pipelines for production and test environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and research experts, to translate technological innovations into practical and scalable solutions that answer end-users’ needs
- Attend and/or chair national task teams with Regional Associations and/or data partners across the county to advance priorities in data integration, data management, and data dissemination
- Prepare regular reports on progress towards milestones through written reports, technical briefings, and project management tracking software
- Other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
- University degree in Computer or Data Science or related discipline with several (3+) years of related experience
- Experience deploying, operating, and scaling applications using containerization tools such as Docker and Docker Compose
- Experience in incident, change, and problem management including system monitoring and log analysis
- Experience with distributed version control systems and pipeline systems, provisioning and maintaining environments for both testing and production, and building and supporting infrastructure as code
- Programming and scripting abilities, particularly in Python, SQL (PostgreSQL), and Bash
- In-depth knowledge of cloud or hybrid environments and Linux shell, Java, Kubernetes (k8s), Typescript, CKAN, ERDDAP, relational databases and SQL query writing, and familiarity with front end technologies (such as React)
- Prior experience or a strong interest in integrating AI into DevOps practices, including using AI-driven analytics for infrastructure monitoring and performance improvements would be considered an asset
- Continuous quality improvement mindset, particularly related to cybersecurity requirements and processes
- Strong written and verbal communication with an ability to translate between stakeholder needs and technical requirements
- Ability to work independently, show initiative and creativity while also being able to work collaboratively and lead multidisciplinary task teams through agile development goals
- Knowledge and/or familiarity with ocean data would be considered an asset
- Preference will be given to bilingual (English and French) candidates
