Program Type: Paid Professional Fellowship (Summer Internship)

Program Duration: 12 Weeks (June 1st, 2026 - August 21st, 2026)

Time Commitment: 32 hours per week (~384 hours total)

Location: Hybrid. Activities include virtual collaboration, in-person industry events, startup ecosystem engagement, and potential site visits across the BioHealth Capital Region.

Compensation: Paid internship. Compensation details will be communicated upon selection.


Program Overview:

The BioBuzz BioCatalyst Fellowship is an immersive professional development program designed to provide graduate students and recent graduates with deep exposure to the life sciences innovation ecosystem, with a specific focus on startups, emerging technologies, and early-stage company development.


The Startup & Innovation Track is tailored for individuals interested in the intersection of biotechnology, entrepreneurship, venture ecosystems, and market intelligence. Fellows in this track will actively contribute to mapping and analyzing the startup landscape, engaging with founders and innovation hubs, and translating complex market insights into compelling, accessible content.

Through direct interaction with startups, incubators, accelerators, and investors, fellows will gain firsthand insight into how new therapies, platforms, and technologies are developed, funded, and scaled within the biotechnology industry.


This role also directly supports BioBuzz’s mission to amplify innovation and talent across the BioHealth Capital Region by producing high-quality ecosystem intelligence and storytelling that highlights emerging companies, breakthrough technologies, and evolving market trends.


Program Objectives:

The BioCatalyst Fellowship is designed to:

  • Provide immersive exposure to the startup and innovation ecosystem within life sciences 
  • Develop foundational skills in market research, ecosystem mapping, and industry analysis 
  • Strengthen understanding of biotech entrepreneurship, venture funding, and commercialization pathways 
  • Translate complex scientific and market insights into clear, engaging content for broad audiences 
  • Support regional ecosystem visibility by highlighting startups, incubators, and innovation leaders 
  • Build a pipeline of talent equipped to operate at the intersection of science, business, and innovation


Fellowship Responsibilities:

Fellows will contribute to BioBuzz initiatives across four primary areas:

1). Startup Ecosystem Mapping & Market Intelligence

  • Conduct comprehensive research to map the life sciences startup ecosystem, including: 
  • Early-stage biotech companies 
  • Incubators and accelerators 
  • Venture capital firms and funding sources 
  • Innovation hubs and research institutions 
  • Analyze trends across: 
  • Therapeutic areas and platform technologies 
  • Funding patterns and investment activity 
  • Company growth trajectories and pipeline development 
  • Regional and national innovation trends 
  • Develop structured outputs such as: 
  • Ecosystem maps 
  • Market landscape summaries 
  • Trend analyses and insight briefs


2). Industry Engagement & Stakeholder Interaction

  • Engage directly with startup founders, executives, and innovation leaders 
  • Participate in industry events, networking sessions, and ecosystem convenings 
  • Conduct interviews with: 
  • Founders and co-founders 
  • Scientific leaders and innovators 
  • Investors and ecosystem stakeholders 
  • Build professional relationships across the startup ecosystem


3). Ecosystem Storytelling & Content Development

A core component of this role is translating insights into high-quality content.

Fellows will develop written and digital content for BioBuzz platforms, including:

  • Startup spotlight features 
  • Founder and executive interviews 
  • Innovation and technology deep dives 
  • Ecosystem trend reports 
  • Event recaps and thought leadership pieces 

Content should be tailored for accessibility, ensuring complex scientific and business concepts are understandable to students, early-career professionals, and broader audiences.


4). Strategic Initiative Support

Support BioBuzz initiatives focused on startup visibility and ecosystem growth 

Contribute to programming such as: 

  • Company spotlight campaigns 
  • Innovation-focused events 
  • Workforce development initiatives 

Assist in identifying opportunities to strengthen connections between startups, talent, and the broader ecosystem


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recently completed undergraduate degree or currently pursuing a graduate degree (Master’s or equivalent) 
  • Strong interest in biotechnology, life sciences innovation, startups, or venture ecosystems 
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and synthesize complex information 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic or professional background in life sciences, business, entrepreneurship, public health, engineering, or related field 
  • Familiarity with the biotech startup landscape, venture funding, or innovation ecosystems 
  • Experience in: 
  • Market research 
  • Competitive analysis 
  • Science communication or writing 
  • Ability to engage professionally with senior stakeholders, including founders and executives 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
