SEO Lead

ABOUT

Company was founded in 2018 with one truck and a $20,000 investment. Today, it’s America’s fastest-growing moving company: entirely bootstrapped, $200M+ in annual revenue. 1,500+ team members, and a fleet of recognisable pink trucks operating across the country. No outside investors. No corporate red tape. Just a brand built on grit, execution, and an obsession with customer experience.

This role sits at the intersection of that growth story. You’ll be the in-house SEO owner. Building the function, owning the strategy, and making the work visible directly to leadership.

THE OPPORTUNITY

SEO is one of the most critical acquisition channels at the company. This isn’t a secondary function: it’s a primary driver of business growth, and it’s treated as such. You’ll report directly to the Head of Growth, work closely with the CMO, and interact with the CEO. Your work will be out in the world, in the market, and measurable.

You’re stepping in at a pivotal moment. We have an external SEO agency in place; your job is to own the strategy, manage their output, hold them to deliverables, and build the infrastructure that connects SEO performance to business results. This is a builder role. There’s no playbook to inherit, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Technical SEO Execution

  • Own and manage the technical SEO health of the site: crawl analysis, site architecture, indexing, Core Web Vitals, and structured data implementation
  • Lead pre/post-launch technical audits for site migrations and new market expansions; maintain a robust go-live checklist that protects SEO equity through every transition
  • Implement and audit schema markup (including structured data that improves visibility in AI-powered search: AEO, featured snippets, answer engines)
  • Diagnose root causes of performance shifts and translate them into a prioritised action roadmap

Multi-Location & Local SEO

  • Build and scale a geo-targeted SEO strategy across all current and future markets
  • Own local landing page strategy, Google Business Profile optimisation across locations, citation management, and local pack vs. organic tracking
  • Develop geo-specific keyword playbooks company expands into new cities and regions

Agency Management & Accountability

  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for the external SEO agency: set the agenda, track deliverables, manage quality, and hold timelines
  • Run structured check-ins, own reporting frameworks, and communicate progress clearly to internal stakeholders including the Head of Growth and CMO
  • Build processes from scratch where none exist; don’t just optimise what’s already there

Performance Reporting & Business Attribution

  • Build and own reporting that connects technical SEO changes to business outcomes, not just impressions and clicks, but leads, revenue, and growth
  • Share findings proactively with leadership; don’t wait to be asked
  • Stay current on algorithm changes and translate them into specific implications for company's strategy

AEO & Emerging Search

  • Develop and test strategies for visibility in AI-powered search results (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) through structured data, content formatting, and citation optimisation
  • Bring a point of view on how generative search will reshape acquisition for a multi-location service business

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Must-Haves

  • True technical SEO depth (5-8 years): You’ve implemented structured data, managed crawl issues, run full technical audits, and built pre-launch checklists from scratch. Keyword discovery and content writing alone won’t be enough here.
  • Geo-targeted SEO experience: You understand the playbook. The right keywords per geography, location page optimisation, GBP management at scale. Company is expanding nationally; you need to be comfortable with the complexity that multiplies across markets.
  • External agency management: You’ve held agency partners accountable: to deliverables, timelines, and output quality. You know how to run an agenda, follow up without being chased, and get people to do the work.
  • Project management as a superpower: Flagged by the hiring team as the single biggest must-have. You cut complex problems into pieces, communicate each part clearly, and manage workloads across multiple partners simultaneously.
  • Proven business attribution: You can connect SEO performance to revenue, not just traffic. You understand that SEO has a longer attribution trajectory, but you can still make the connection clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Builder mentality: You come in and figure things out without a fully resourced team behind you. You see a problem, break it down, communicate it, and solve it. You don’t wait to be told.
  • Zoom in / zoom out capability: You can get into the weeds on technical execution day-to-day and also think strategically about what actually moves the needle for the business.
  • Comfortable in a flat, fast-moving org: Small in-house team. Work is visible. Impact is direct. CEO and leadership are in the weeds.
  • SEO as a make-or-break channel: Your background should come from a company where search was existential: insurance, brick-and-mortar service, high-competition verticals. Not somewhere SEO was a secondary function.
  • Communication: You translate technical SEO concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. You’ll interface directly with the CMO and occasionally the CEO. You need to be comfortable presenting up.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Website migration experience. Ideally you’ve been part of at least one full migration, knows the risks, the checklist, and how to protect SEO equity through a transition
  • Familiarity with Reddit and forum content as signals for content strategy and AEO
  • Exposure to digital PR or earned media in support of link building
  • Growth marketing or paid search exposure: helpful for shared language across the team
  • Agency background preferred: typically signals stronger hands-on execution density earlier in career

Full transparency: We are not for everyone. We’re a fast-paced, execution-driven company where showing up means actually doing the work. The team is lean, flat, and focused. You won’t hide behind a polished PowerPoint - here, energy goes into the deliverable.

The founder is still deep in the details, and we expect the same level of ownership from everyone. People who thrive here are doers, problem-solvers, and obsessive about being great at what they do. If that describes you, and the idea of building something real excites you, you’ll fit right in.

Where people have struggled: needing a large team behind them to get things done, difficulty taking direct feedback, or a preference for moving slowly. Where people have thrived: coming in and figuring things out even things they’ve never done before.
