The Project Executive provides overall leadership and direction on the construction project. Typically, the Project Executive is responsible for negotiating the Owner contract, serving as the main contact for the Project Manager regarding budget, billing, and client satisfaction, and ensuring the fiscal success of the project.


Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in business judgment and all financial and profitability aspects of projects under your jurisdiction.
  • Participate extensively in the work acquisition process, developing project budgets and schedules that achieve profitability objectives while accounting for project-specific challenges.
  • Set appropriate milestones and assign staff qualified to handle the scope and complexity of the project.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, architects, and subcontractors, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Oversee all necessary resources throughout the entire project, from start-up through closeout, ensuring expectations regarding budget, schedule, and quality—as well as profitability objectives—are met or exceeded.

Project Oversight

  • Manage projects at a high level from beginning to end, including budget, costs, unforeseen events, performance, and overall progress.
  • Ensure effective transition of day-to-day operations from Preconstruction to Project Managers and Superintendents once fieldwork commences.
  • Mentor, train, and coach staff to perform at or above organizational standards.
  • Represent the company to Owners, Architects, Consultants, Government Authorities, Vendors, and Subcontractors.

Project Acquisition

  • Understand unique owner needs, represent company capabilities, and support project acquisition.
  • Review projects for unique challenges that may impact budget/profitability objectives.
  • Leverage industry contacts and relationships to generate project leads and follow through to acquisition.
  • Contribute to RFP responses, proposal editing, and interview preparation.
  • Participate in contract negotiations as requested.

Project Start Up/Pre-Construction

  • Assign appropriate Project Staff, including Project Management and Field Operations.
  • Approve pre-mobilization activities.
  • Ensure smooth turnover between Preconstruction and Operations teams.
  • Lead preconstruction efforts as needed, collaborating with estimating teams to develop budgets, schedules, and logistics plans.

Project Operations

  • Ensure projects achieve budget, schedule, quality, and profitability goals.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Owner Contract and ensure compliance.
  • Visit sites regularly to monitor performance and address challenges creatively to bring projects in on time, within budget, and at the expected quality.

People

  • Monitor and evaluate Project Manager and Superintendent performance.
  • Support the development of the entire team.
  • Assist in sourcing, screening, mentoring, and training talent, ensuring effective alignment with project scope.

Financial Performance

  • Oversee cash management, accounts receivable, and accurate financial forecasting.
  • Manage P&L, including contingencies, liabilities, and savings potential.

Schedule Performance

  • Assist in developing the Baseline Schedule.
  • Monitor progress and implement Lean Planning processes as needed.
  • Ensure project teams are trained in and adhere to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Safety

  • Champion jobsite safety initiatives, motivating the on-site team to follow safety protocols.
  • Ensure projects include adequate safety funding from the outset.

Meeting Management

  • Attend meetings necessary to monitor and manage profitability.
  • Chair or attend weekly project staff meetings.

Client Relationships

  • Maintain continuous communication with clients to gauge satisfaction and relay feedback to the project team.
  • Act as the company’s primary representative with owners and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10–15 years of construction management experience at a large-scale general contractor or CM at Risk firm.
  • Data center and/or heavy MEP system experience is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial construction practices required.
  • Proven experience leading multiple project teams, developing direct reports, and maintaining strong external relationships.
  • Expertise in managing projects of varying size, complexity, and sector.
  • Ability to embrace and adapt to change, applying new processes and innovative approaches.
