Project Planner – Energy from Waste (Contract)

Location: Cambridgeshire

Contract Type: Contract (Outside IR35)

Day Rate: £450–£500

Overview

H9 Talent Solutions are recruiting for an experienced Project Planner to join a major Energy from Waste project based in Cambridgeshire. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules, ensuring accurate reporting and control of project progress throughout the engineering, procurement, and construction phases.


Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed project schedules covering engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.

• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure alignment between schedule, cost, and scope.

• Monitor progress against baseline plans, identifying variances and providing early warnings of potential delays.

• Prepare regular progress updates, lookahead schedules, and performance reports for senior management and clients.

• Integrate subcontractor and supplier schedules into the overall master programme.

• Support change management processes, assessing the time impact of variations and delays.

• Conduct critical path analysis and propose recovery or mitigation plans when required.

• Attend project review meetings, providing planning input and insights to drive decision-making.

• Ensure compliance with client reporting requirements and company planning standards.

• Support the preparation of tender and proposal schedules where required.


Experience & Skills Required

• Proven experience as a Project Planner within the Energy from Waste, power generation, or major industrial construction sectors.

• Proficiency with Primavera P6 (essential) and working knowledge of MS Project.

• Strong understanding of project controls processes, progress measurement, and earned value analysis.

• Demonstrable experience managing schedules under EPC or NEC contract frameworks.

• Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.

• Ability to interpret complex engineering and construction information.

• Self-motivated and able to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.

• Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
