Our client is a fast-growing provider of electrical infrastructure equipment and procurement services for utility-scale and commercial power projects. They provide essential products like switchgear, transformers, and protection systems for T&D networks, renewable energy, and data centers across North America and select global markets.

 

Position Overview

We are seeking a high-performing Director of Sales to drive sales of our grid-scale renewable energy and transmission & distribution (T&D) equipment portfolio. This role focuses on new business development, account management, and full-cycle sales across utilities, EPCs, IPPs, and developers. The ideal candidate has experience with utility-scale renewables, energy storage, and high-voltage electrical infrastructure. This position requires a self-starter who excels in both virtual and in-person environments and can drive regional growth strategies while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

 

Job description:

  • Develop and execute sales strategies for renewable energy projects and T&D solutions including transformers, switchgear, substations, and high-voltage equipment
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across utility-scale solar, wind, BESS, and grid modernization projects
  • Build territory plans and account strategies aligned with company growth objectives
  • Business Development & Account Management
  • Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting and qualification through proposal development, negotiation, and contract closure
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers at utilities, EPCs, IPPs, developers, and consulting engineers
  • Serve as trusted advisor to clients on technical solutions, product selection, and project requirements
  • Deliver technical presentations, solution proposals, and RFP/RFQ responses tailored to customer specifications
  • Lead contract negotiations in collaboration with legal and executive teams
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, and Project Delivery teams to ensure seamless customer experience
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline tracking, and opportunity management in CRM (HubSpot)
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on pipeline health, revenue projections, and market activity
  • Monitor market trends, competitor positioning, regulatory developments, and industry shifts affecting the energy sector
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, and Marketing teams to develop customer-specific solutions and value propositions
  • Provide market feedback to inform product development and go-to-market strategies
  • Representing GRID at industry conferences, trade shows, and client meetings
  • Use virtual tools for remote engagement; travel 20–40% as needed.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Renewable Energy, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
  • 10+ years of sales or account management experience in the energy sector, with focus on utility-scale projects or T&D equipment
  • Proven track record of closing large capital equipment sales ($1M–$50M+) with utilities, EPCs, or renewable developers
  • Strong understanding of North American energy markets, ISO/RTO structures (CAISO, ERCOT, PJM), and utility procurement processes
  • Deep familiarity with electrical infrastructure products: transformers, switchgear, substations, protection & control systems, BESS
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with technical and executive audiences
  • CRM proficiency (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar platforms)
  • Self-motivated and effective working independently in a remote/hybrid environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree (Electrical, Mechanical, or Power Systems)
  • Experience selling into California utilities (SCE, PG&E, SDG&E) or CAISO market participants
  • Knowledge of interconnection processes, FERC regulations, or renewable energy development
  • Existing relationships with key EPCs, developers, or utility procurement teams
  • Familiarity with energy storage systems (BESS) and microgrid solutions
