Job Title: Safety & Compliance Manager – Energy Recovery Facility (ERF)
Location: Beddington
Work Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: £56,000-£62,000 with participation in an annual bonus scheme
Job Summary:
A highly motivated and hands-on Safety & Compliance Manager is required to oversee and manage health, safety, and compliance operations at a modern Energy Recovery Facility (ERF). This role plays a critical part in ensuring that all site operations adhere to safety legislation, environmental permits, and company policies, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and zero compromise on compliance.
The Safety & Compliance Manager will work closely with the Plant Manager and wider site team to deliver safe, productive operations, aligned with regulatory requirements and best practices. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities, extensive experience in high-compliance environments, and a proactive, risk-based approach to safety and compliance management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all site-based health and safety systems, safe systems of work, and risk assessment processes.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, licences, and corporate management systems.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor and manage site health, safety, and environmental performance metrics.
- Conduct or support investigations into incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Promote a compliance-focused, safety-first culture through staff engagement, training, and leadership.
- Work collaboratively with the site leadership team to integrate safety and compliance into all operations.
- Maintain documentation in line with ISO standards and regulatory expectations.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience in a safety and compliance role within an industrial or regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, risk management, and incident prevention strategies.
- Proven experience of leading or supporting safety and compliance culture in operational settings.
- Familiarity with permitted/regulated activities and emissions control.
- IOSH/NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in the energy-from-waste or power generation industry.
- Working knowledge of ISO standards, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 50001.
- Experience working in a start-up or commissioning environment within industrial operations.
