Planning Manager – Energy from Waste (Contract Role)

Day Rate: £450 Per Day

Overview

H9 Talent Solutions are recruiting for a Planning Manager to join a major Energy from Waste project based in Walsall. This is a contract role working directly with the client, providing leadership and oversight of all planning activities across the project lifecycle.


The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing project programmes, ensuring delivery in line with NEC contract requirements, client objectives, and industry best practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the planning function for a large-scale EfW project.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain detailed project programmes covering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Apply Primavera P6 (and other planning tools) to create robust, resource-loaded schedules.
  • Monitor progress, identify critical path activities, and provide clear reporting to the client and project leadership team.
  • Support project controls by working closely with cost, commercial, and document control teams.
  • Provide regular programme updates, forecasts, and progress reports in accordance with NEC contract requirements.
  • Facilitate collaborative planning sessions with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct delay analysis, time impact assessments, and support claims where required.
  • Liaise with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure programmes are achievable and aligned to project goals.
  • Drive compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards in all planning activities.


Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven experience as a Planning Manager (or Senior Planner stepping up) on large-scale engineering projects.
  • Strong background in Energy from Waste, power generation, or large process plant projects.
  • Expert knowledge of Primavera P6 and planning methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts and associated programme requirements.
  • Experience in forensic scheduling, delay analysis, and time impact assessments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline (preferred).
