DCS Commissioning Operator

Outside IR35 | Cheshire

H9 Talent Solutions is recruiting for an experienced DCS Commissioning Operator to support the commissioning and start-up of a major energy infrastructure project in Cheshire.

This is a hands-on role working alongside the commissioning, operations and engineering teams to safely bring plant systems into operation. You will play a key role in operating the Distributed Control System (DCS) throughout cold commissioning, hot commissioning, functional testing and plant start-up.

The Role

Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring the plant via the DCS during all phases of commissioning, ensuring systems are safely commissioned, tested and handed over to operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the plant using the Distributed Control System (DCS) during commissioning and start-up activities.
• Support cold commissioning, hot commissioning and integrated system testing.
• Monitor plant parameters and respond to changing process conditions.
• Carry out plant start-up, shutdown and operational testing in accordance with commissioning procedures.
• Assist with functional testing, sequence testing and Cause & Effect verification.
• Support loop checking, equipment proving and system validation activities.
• Identify process abnormalities and support fault-finding alongside engineering teams.
• Record commissioning data and maintain accurate operational logs.
• Raise defects and support punch list management.
• Participate in commissioning meetings and shift handovers.
• Ensure commissioning activities are carried out safely and in accordance with Permit to Work procedures.
• Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, EC&I, Process and Operations teams to achieve commissioning milestones.
• Support plant performance testing and reliability runs leading to client handover.
• Promote the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance at all times.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience operating a Distributed Control System (DCS) during commissioning or live plant operations.
• Experience with Valmet DNA,
• Experience on large industrial projects such as: Energy from Waste (EfW),Biomass,Power Generation,CCGT / OCGT,CHP
• Understanding of commissioning processes and plant start-up activities.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and process documentation.
• Experience working under Permit to Work systems.
• Strong awareness of process safety and commissioning risk management.
• Excellent communication and teamworking skills.
• Comfortable working shifts where required.
