Plant Manager – Energy Recovery Facility (ERF)
Location: Glasgow, UK
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday)
Salary: Circa £90,000 per annum + car allowance + annual bonus + comprehensive benefits package

Operating one of the UK’s largest networks of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs), this business plays a crucial role in supporting national climate goals by diverting waste from landfill and transforming it into valuable energy resources.
We’re seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the Glasgow ERF site. This is a senior leadership position with full accountability for site performance, making it a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic leader who thrives on operational excellence, safety, and strategic delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire the site team, acting as the senior representative and championing a safety-first culture.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management Plans, maintaining alignment with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
- Deliver and sustain operational targets for plant availability, waste throughput, and energy production, reporting regularly on performance.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on team development and succession planning.
- Take full responsibility for the site’s Profit & Loss, including annual budget preparation, cost management, variance analysis, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across Commercial, PPM, Finance, HR, and SHEQS to support wider business initiatives and meet contractual obligations.
- Drive operational excellence by aligning practices with industry best standards and identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance is rigorously maintained, working with central functions for consistency and governance.
Person Specification
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Proven senior leadership experience within a large technical or operational environment.
- Strong financial acumen with P&L ownership and budget management experience.
- Experience in implementing and working within corporate management systems.
- Senior management background within power generation, energy recovery, or a similar process environment.
- Strong contract management and stakeholder engagement experience.
Desirable:
- Relevant technical or engineering qualifications.
- Direct experience managing Energy Recovery Facilities or similar large-scale operational sites.
- Proven success driving cultural and operational improvement.
