Job Title: Senior Procurement Buyer

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Procurement Buyer to join our client, a growing renewable energy/transmission business, in Irvine, California. This role is responsible for leading sourcing, negotiation, and supplier management activities to support critical grid infrastructure projects, including equipment, materials, and services essential to power delivery, grid modernization, and energy transition initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring supply chain resilience, cost optimization, and strategic supplier partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process for assigned categories, including RFQs, RFPs, contract negotiations, and purchase order execution.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies that align with business goals, sustainability objectives, and project timelines.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring performance, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with engineering, operations, project management, and finance teams to forecast demand, align specifications, and drive cost savings initiatives.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to delivery, quality, or cost.
- Analyze market trends, cost drivers, and supply chain risks to inform sourcing decisions and mitigate disruptions.
- Negotiate long-term agreements and contracts that secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, and supply reliability.
- Support compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (including safety, ESG, and ethical sourcing practices).
- Mentor and guide junior procurement team members as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management (preferred, not essential), Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive procurement experience, ideally in energy, utilities, electrical equipment, or industrial infrastructure sectors.
- Proven track record of managing strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
- Strong knowledge of grid infrastructure products such as transformers, switchgear, cabling, substations, and related EPC services is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and procurement tools.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with multiple priorities.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or similar credentials a plus.
