District Partners is engaged on this exclusive search for a Reporting Application Engineer for a federal contractor supporting a multi-year digital transformation initiative with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This is a senior, hands-on role where you will design, build, and optimize enterprise-scale reporting solutions that directly support national security and trade/travel modernization.
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and deploy enterprise-level reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using BI platforms (SAP Business Objects, Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik)
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to leverage dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas) for high-performance reporting
- Write complex SQL queries (CTEs, window functions, advanced joins) against Oracle and Databricks environments
- Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver reporting solutions aligned to business needs
- Monitor and optimize reporting performance to ensure reliability and scalability
- Leverage AWS services (S3, EMR, Redshift, Glue) to build cloud-native reporting solutions
- Manage the lifecycle of reporting assets, including version control, scheduling, and ongoing enhancements
Required Experience:
- AWS certification (Data Analytics – Specialty, Solutions Architect, or similar)
- Advanced Databricks expertise (performance tuning, Unity Catalog)
- Scripting skills in Python (Pandas, PySpark) for data manipulation/automation
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control for BI assets (Git, Harness, etc.)
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and enterprise data catalogs
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
What We’re Looking For:
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (preferred)
- 12+ years of experience with a BS, or 9+ years with a MS (comparable degree/experience mix considered)
- 5+ years in a dedicated reporting, BI, or data analytics role
- Expert SQL skills with complex query development in Oracle
- Hands-on Databricks experience (SQL Warehouses, notebooks, Delta Lake, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing and dimensional modeling (star vs. snowflake schemas)
- Experience with at least one BI platform (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or SAP BO)
- AWS cloud experience required; certification strongly preferred
Location:
This role requires 2–3 days per week onsite in Ashburn, VA. Candidates must be fully comfortable with this schedule; no exceptions.
Clearance:
Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain DHS suitability clearance.
The Project:
As part of a five-year modernization program, this role focuses on building robust reporting and BI solutions on top of massive, complex datasets. You’ll develop cloud-native reporting pipelines, dimensional models, and dashboards that translate raw data into actionable insights for decision-makers at scale.
Terms:
- 1-year contract with planned conversion to direct hire
- Long-term work expected (multi-year program already underway)
