District Partners has been exclusively engaged by a privately held organization to identify a Controller who will lead all accounting and financial operations for the business. This is a highly visible, hands-on role serving as the senior-most finance professional, partnering directly with leadership to drive financial accuracy, reporting, and operational efficiency.


This individual will own the full accounting function while overseeing a part-time Staff Accountant supporting transactional activities.


Position Overview

The Controller will be responsible for end-to-end financial management, including accounting, reporting, payroll, benefits administration, and compliance. This role requires a strong operator who is comfortable working independently, managing day-to-day execution, and providing actionable financial insights to leadership.


What You'll Do:

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Prepare internal financial statements and reporting packages
  • Analyze financial performance, including margins, cost trends, and project-level profitability
  • Develop short- and long-term cash flow forecasts
  • Partner with external accounting firm on annual reviews and tax filings

Accounts Payable & Expense Management

  • Oversee vendor invoice processing and weekly payment cycles
  • Manage credit card reconciliations and expense reporting (SAP Concur)
  • Review and approve AP batches prior to leadership submission
  • Process employee expense reimbursements

Accounts Receivable & Billing

  • Manage invoicing for service contracts and project-based work
  • Track receivables and lead collections efforts
  • Partner with operations to align billing with contract milestones

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Own full payroll cycle (bi-weekly) including review, deductions, and tax compliance
  • Administer 401(k) contributions and company match
  • Manage health benefits enrollment, renewals, and employee changes
  • Partner with brokers on annual benefits renewals and plan analysis

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor daily cash position
  • Manage payment timing and liquidity planning
  • Coordinate banking relationships, including standby letters of credit

Compliance & Corporate Operations

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and regulatory requirements
  • Manage annual filings, insurance renewals, and COI requests
  • Support audit preparation and external reporting requirements

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Maintain and optimize accounting and financial systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements across finance operations
  • Utilize tools including QuickBooks Online, ADP Workforce Now, SAP Concur, and Microsoft 365


What You'll Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Prior experience in a Controller or Senior Accountant capacity
  • Strong understanding of payroll and benefits administration (ADP experience preferred)
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel; experience with SAP Concur a plus
  • Experience in project-based or construction accounting environments preferred
  • Ability to operate independently in a hands-on environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface across all levels of the organization
