Senior Software Engineer, SaaS Platform & Architecture

Why You'll Actually Care

District Partners is exclusively supporting a growing healthcare technology company connecting organizations that need to work together but too often rely on disconnected systems and manual processes. Its software helps healthcare and public-sector teams share critical information, coordinate services, and improve access to care, giving the engineering work a purpose that extends beyond the application itself. For a senior engineer who wants to stay close to the code while shaping architecture and product capabilities, this opportunity brings meaningful technical challenges and broad ownership together.

The Basics

The company builds a cloud-based platform that brings communication, information sharing, and complex workflows into a connected digital experience. Serving users across organizational boundaries creates substantive engineering challenges around secure data exchange, real-time interactions, integrations, and dependable performance. This is a hands-on individual contributor role spanning backend development, application architecture, data, and cloud operations, with responsibility from initial design through production.

What You'll Be Owning

  • Product Development: Turn product needs into dependable software, owning technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing refinement.
  • Platform Architecture: Evolve application components and service boundaries, balancing new functionality with scalability, maintainability, and long-term architectural health.
  • APIs & Data: Build backend services, integrations, and real-time communication capabilities supported by sound data models, efficient queries, and carefully managed migrations.
  • Engineering Quality: Strengthen automated testing and CI/CD practices to make releases more predictable and changes easier to validate and support.
  • Production Reliability: Improve application and infrastructure monitoring, investigate performance bottlenecks, and address the underlying causes of reliability and availability issues.
  • Security & Technical Support: Build security into application design, resolve advanced production escalations, and contribute to broader IT, security, and compliance needs.

The Environment

You will balance visible product improvements with the engineering that makes a SaaS platform dependable: database performance, deployment automation, observability, security, and production troubleshooting. The role requires moving comfortably between implementation details and architectural tradeoffs, making practical decisions about what to improve now and what to build for the future. It suits someone who enjoys understanding the whole system and following their work through to its impact on users.

What You Bring To The Table

  • SaaS Engineering & Architecture: 8+ years of software engineering experience, including designing, implementing, and scaling web-based SaaS products. You can evaluate architectural tradeoffs and translate technical direction into production code.
  • Backend Development & APIs: Strong backend engineering skills, preferably with Node.js, including REST API design and integration, JSON, and messaging or real-time communication technologies such as WebSockets.
  • Databases & Data Architecture: Substantial SQL and/or NoSQL experience spanning data modeling, query development, migrations, and performance optimization, with an understanding of how data access patterns affect scalability.
  • AWS & Production Operations: Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and SaaS operations, including application and infrastructure monitoring, performance troubleshooting, and improving system availability.
  • Testing, Delivery & Security: Experience with automated unit and end-to-end testing, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and secure web application development.
  • Technical Judgment & Breadth: The ability to balance feature delivery with architectural improvements, investigate complex production issues, and contribute across technical disciplines. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field is required.
  • Helpful Additional Experience: Regulated software environments, standards-based data integrations, LLM product integrations, progressive web applications, mobile client experiences, business intelligence, or security technologies covering identity and access management, intrusion detection, and data loss prevention. Experience wearing multiple technical hats in a startup or small organization is also valuable.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

  • Base Salary: $165,000–$200,000
  • Additional Compensation: Bonus plus benefits.
