Available for both interim and permanent placements. A full-service U.S. city has engaged District Partners to recruit a strategic, hands-on Director of Finance. Reporting to executive leadership, you will steer all municipal finance functions—budget development, accounting, treasury, revenue, purchasing, and financial policy—while advising elected officials and department heads on long-range fiscal strategy. With new revenue initiatives on the horizon and multiple capital projects in motion, the City needs a forward-thinking leader who can modernize systems, elevate transparency, and cultivate a high-performing finance team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all municipal finance operations: budgeting, accounting, audit, treasury/investment, debt, and purchasing.
- Deliver clear, concise financial analyses and presentations to senior staff, councilmembers, and community stakeholders.
- Oversee annual operating and capital budgets; drive multi-year forecasting and funding strategies.
- Champion technology upgrades, process improvements, and staff development to enhance accuracy and service levels.
- Ensure full compliance with GAAP, GASB, and state/local regulations; coordinate external audits.
- Serve on the City’s executive team as a trusted advisor on fiscal policy, risk management, and resource allocation.
Qualifications:
- Senior-level experience (Finance Director, CFO, Budget Director, etc.) in city, county, or other public-sector finance.
- Deep knowledge of governmental accounting, multi-fund budgeting, audit, and treasury management.
- Proven ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-financial audiences.
- Collaborative, mentorship-oriented leader who builds cohesive, motivated teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public/Business Administration or related field (Master’s, CPA, or CPFO preferred).
- Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible, supervisory public-sector finance experience.
