District Partners is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing across Illinois, Missouri, and Florida. With a $36M operating budget and a portfolio of over 2,500 units, the organization is seeking a strategic, part-time CFO to help guide them through a key leadership transition.
This is a 6-month fractional engagement with high visibility. You’ll be working closely with the interim leadership team, the Board, and internal finance staff to optimize the organization’s financial operations, support governance, and lay the foundation for the next permanent CFO.
What You'll Do:
- Serve as a strategic finance advisor to the Board and executive team during CEO transition
- Assess current financial processes and recommend improvements, particularly around reporting, planning, and controls
- Oversee and mentor the existing Controller and two Staff Accountants
- Provide leadership on financial planning, cash flow management, and long-term capital strategy
- Evaluate and potentially guide upgrades to existing systems (currently using Acumatica)
- Support the onboarding of the next permanent CFO and ensure a smooth handoff
What We're Looking For:
- Prior CFO or senior finance leadership experience in nonprofit, real estate, or housing organizations
- Strong boardroom presence and ability to navigate complex leadership dynamics
- Hands-on and collaborative style—willing to dive in when needed
- Experience with Acumatica is a plus, but not required
- Ideally available for 20–25 hours per week, onsite more frequently at the start, with flexibility to move hybrid
Compensation: $100–$120/hour (1099)
