District Partners is recruiting a financial crime operations team in Lisbon supporting a major cryptocurrency exchange. The team investigates alerts generated by customer and transaction monitoring systems. It traces funds on-chain and off-chain, decides whether activity is explained, needs escalation, or warrants a suspicious activity report, and keeps every case file audit-ready.
We’re hiring at several levels, from hands-on investigators to quality reviewers and people leaders. If you know AML transaction monitoring and want to work at the front line of digital-asset financial crime, we’d like to hear from you.
Open Roles:
-
AML Investigator: Run end-to-end investigations of crypto and fiat activity, trace funds across wallets and services, and write clear, defensible case and SAR narratives.
-
Quality Control Analyst: Independently review investigator work to confirm that tracing, risk analysis, evidence, and final decisions are accurate and well supported. Document defects and drive remediation.
-
Team Lead: Lead a team of investigators. Manage daily case inventory, act as the first escalation point on complex cases, and coach the team on case strategy and narrative quality.
-
Operations Manager: Oversee multiple team leads and overall delivery. Own production, quality, and service-level performance, and act as a senior contact for compliance leadership and client stakeholders.
What You'll be Owning:
- Investigating crypto deposits, withdrawals, transfers, fiat funding, and account behavior using KYC/CDD/EDD data, transaction histories, internal records, and open-source intelligence
- Tracing funds on-chain with tools such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or Elliptic, and matching that activity to off-chain customer records
- Spotting digital-asset typologies, including layering, structuring, chain hopping, mixers, high-risk exchanges, scams and fraud, ransomware, darknet markets, mule activity, and sanctions exposure
- Checking customer activity against expected behavior, source of funds and wealth, geography, and transaction history
- Deciding outcomes: close, escalate, refer to sanctions or fraud, or recommend a SAR
- Producing concise, fact-based, audit-ready case documentation
- Raising emerging typologies, linked accounts, and control gaps with compliance leadership
- Working in a production environment with defined quality, productivity, and regulatory deadlines
What You'll Bring to the Table:

- Investigator: 2+ years
- QC Analyst: 3+ years
- Team Lead: 5+ years, including 2+ years leading or reviewing analysts
- Operations Manager: 7+ years, including 3+ years managing leads or supervisors
- Practical knowledge of crypto transaction flows: wallets, addresses, transaction hashes, centralized and decentralized exchanges, stablecoins, bridges, and smart contracts
- Hands-on experience with blockchain analytics or wallet-screening platforms
- Working knowledge of AML, CDD/EDD, sanctions, and suspicious activity reporting obligations, including US frameworks (BSA, FinCEN, OFAC)
- Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple cases or priorities against deadlines
- Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to explain complex transaction activity clearly
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Preferred:
- Investigation experience at a crypto exchange or other virtual asset service provider
- Chainalysis experience (strongly preferred)
- Experience with account takeovers, fraud proceeds, ransomware, or darknet investigations
- ACAMS, CFCS, CCI, CCAS, or Chainalysis certification
