Senior Power BI Engineer

Advanced DAX | Azure | Enterprise Analytics

District Partners is partnering with an established consumer-focused enterprise operating one of the industry's largest multi-location franchise networks, generating millions of operational and financial data points every day. As the organization modernizes its enterprise analytics platform, they're looking for a senior Power BI professional with exceptional DAX expertise to transform complex business logic into scalable reporting that drives executive decision making. If you enjoy solving challenging technical problems, optimizing enterprise datasets, and owning solutions from concept through delivery, this is an opportunity to make a measurable impact.

Why You'll Actually Care

This is not a dashboard development role. You'll solve complex operational and financial reporting challenges by building advanced DAX calculations, scalable semantic models, and executive dashboards across a high-volume franchise business. The data already exists. Your role is turning it into meaningful insight through technical expertise, curiosity, and independent problem solving.

The Basics

You'll join a collaborative technology and analytics team supporting Finance, Operations, Commercial, and Executive Leadership. The organization is modernizing enterprise reporting while transitioning to a cloud-based Azure analytics platform utilizing Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Azure Data Lake. You'll work closely with Data Engineering and business stakeholders to deliver reporting solutions supporting a high-volume, multi-location franchise business.

What You'll Be Owning

  • Lead advanced Power BI development supporting executive-level financial and operational reporting.
  • Design and optimize complex DAX calculations, semantic models, and enterprise reporting solutions.
  • Translate SQL queries and business requirements into scalable Power BI models and executive dashboards.
  • Build executive reporting that supports P&L performance, sales, labor, margin analysis, forecasting, operational KPIs, and strategic decision making across corporate and franchise locations.
  • Partner with Data Engineering to leverage Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Azure Data Lake.
  • Continuously improve report performance, scalability, governance, and reporting automation.

The Environment

This is a highly autonomous environment where curiosity, ownership, and initiative matter as much as technical ability. You'll receive the business context, documentation, and technical resources needed to succeed, but you'll be expected to independently solve problems, consistently meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality work without constant direction. Advanced DAX expertise, responsiveness, accountability, and a willingness to learn the business are the biggest predictors of success.

What You Bring To The Table

This role is built for someone whose technical expertise is centered around advanced DAX. You should be comfortable writing complex calculations from scratch and solving sophisticated business problems, not simply building reports.

Required experience includes:

  • Expert-level Power BI development with advanced DAX, including CALCULATE, SUMX, FILTER, variables, context transition, time intelligence, complex financial calculations, KPI frameworks, and performance optimization.
  • Advanced SQL with the ability to translate complex SQL logic into scalable DAX solutions.
  • Strong experience with semantic modeling, star schema design, dimensional modeling, and enterprise Power BI architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Data Lake, or similar cloud data platforms.
  • Experience building executive-level financial and operational reporting supporting P&L, sales, labor, margin analysis, forecasting, and enterprise KPIs.
  • Experience supporting high-volume enterprise datasets where scalability, performance, and reporting accuracy are critical.
  • Experience supporting multi-unit retail, franchise, restaurant, hospitality, or similarly distributed organizations is strongly preferred.
  • A naturally curious mindset with the ability to quickly learn the business, work independently, and consistently deliver results with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to take ownership, prioritize effectively, remain responsive, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first few months, you'll:

  • Become the team's go-to resource for advanced DAX and enterprise Power BI.
  • Independently translate business requirements into scalable analytics with minimal oversight.
  • Consistently meet deadlines while delivering high-quality solutions across multiple priorities.
  • Continuously improve reporting performance and provide meaningful business insights.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

  • Compensation: Competitive contract rate based on experience, targeting $55-$75/hour.
  • Engagement Type: Contract-to-hire with the intent of converting to a full-time employee.

  • Work Authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Environment: Fast-paced, collaborative, high-visibility team supporting enterprise analytics across one of the industry's largest distributed franchise operations.
