IT Business Operations Analyst

Remote | Technology Budgets & Vendor Operations

District Partners is supporting an established global professional organization in hiring an IT Business Operations Analyst for its technology division. As the team strengthens its budgeting and vendor management practices, this person will help organize software and cloud spending, stay ahead of renewals, and give technology leaders the information they need to plan effectively.

Why You’ll Actually Care

This role combines detailed financial operations with direct involvement in technology spending decisions. You’ll help leaders understand their budgets, evaluate software usage, and anticipate needs before purchases or renewals become urgent. You’ll also have the opportunity to improve how the team works as its processes develop.

The Basics

Reporting to the business operations manager, you’ll focus on software and technology vendor expenses, complementing the manager’s oversight of labor and the broader budget. You’ll work across technology, finance, procurement, and legal, providing analysis and coordination while procurement leads negotiations and legal handles contract review.

What You’ll Be Owning

  • Maintain budgets, forecasts, and spending reports, tracking actuals, commitments, and variances to support monthly reviews with technology leaders.
  • Organize contract records, renewal calendars, and notice periods, coordinating timely reviews with technical owners and procurement.
  • Verify purchases against approved budgets, maintain approval and purchase order records, and submit vendor invoices.
  • Analyze software licenses, cloud consumption, and subscription costs to identify unused capacity, unexpected spending, and optimization opportunities.
  • Help assess new software and AI requests against existing capabilities, usage needs, and licensing options.
  • Develop practical reporting and workflows that improve visibility into spending and upcoming decisions, using vendor benchmarks or external research when helpful.

The Environment

You’ll join a small, hands-on business operations team supporting a broader technology organization. Processes are still taking shape, so you must be comfortable with ambiguity, able to follow through without a fully defined playbook and willing to help establish workable approaches. The role calls for someone who is meticulous with details, flexible in execution, and comfortable building relationships with engineers and business leaders.

What You Bring to the Table

  • 5+ years of experience supporting technology budgets, vendor spend, software purchasing, contract administration, or related financial operations.
  • Strong forecasting and analytical skills, with advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of SaaS, cloud services, subscription licensing, and consumption-based pricing.
  • Familiarity with AI platforms, their capabilities, and licensing models.
  • Experience maintaining financial and contract records and interpreting pricing, renewal dates, notice periods, payment terms, and usage commitments.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain financial information, ask thoughtful questions, and coordinate across stakeholders.

Backgrounds in IT finance, vendor management, software asset management, or technology business operations are relevant. FinOps, license recovery, vendor benchmarking, and procurement or contract management systems experience are helpful.

A Few Things Worth Knowing
