Sales Engineer

Location: Hybrid, San Francisco, CA

Salary: $150,000 - $200,000 USD Base + Competitive Equity

About the Role

An early-stage AI company is looking for a highly technical Sales Engineer to sit at the intersection of Sales, Product, Engineering, and customers. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role focused on helping prospects understand the value of the platform, designing and deploying customer pilots, and taking implementations through to successful activation.

You'll translate complex insurance workflows into AI-powered solutions, write Python, architect agent skills, configure integrations, and work closely with customers to ensure successful adoption. You'll also play a key role in feeding customer insights back into Product and Engineering, helping shape both the roadmap and the company's deployment playbook.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working directly with customers, thrives in ambiguity, and wants significant ownership within a small, high-growth AI startup.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Sales to design, build, and deploy customer pilots that demonstrate the value of the AI platform
  • Translate insurance workflows into scalable agent resources, including writing extensible Python scripts and developing customer-specific skills
  • Own the technical architecture behind customer deployments from initial discovery through activation
  • Configure and validate integrations across customer technology stacks, including AMS and CRM platforms, carrier portals, and other data sources
  • Lead technical discovery sessions and act as a trusted technical partner throughout the customer journey
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering to turn customer feedback and usage insights into product improvements and roadmap priorities
  • Support customer enablement and adoption, ensuring users are able to realise value from the platform
  • Help develop and continuously improve the company's deployment playbook, creating processes and best practices that can scale as the customer base grows

What We're Looking For

  • 3-5 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering, Technical Implementation, or Support Engineering
  • Strong Python development skills and the ability to build and extend technical solutions
  • Experience working directly with customers to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Comfortable working across APIs, integrations, data sources, and complex technology environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to operate effectively in an ambiguous, fast-paced startup environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with AI/ML products, agent architectures, automation, or workflow platforms is highly desirable
  • Experience within insurance, fintech, or other complex, workflow-driven industries would be a plus

Why Join?

  • Join an early-stage AI company building technology specifically for the insurance industry
  • Work directly with Sales, Product, and Engineering and have a meaningful influence on the product roadmap
  • Own customer deployments end-to-end and see your work directly impact revenue and customer outcomes
  • Join a small, highly technical team with significant ownership and opportunity to make an impact
  • Competitive $150K-$200K USD base salary plus equity
  • Open to visa transfers, including OPT and H-1B transfers
  • Hybrid role based in San Francisco with an expectation of being in the office 5 days per week
