Management Accountant

Hereford (hybrid, 37 hrs per week)

£36,000 - £45,000 + benefits

26 days’ leave (rising to 31 after 5 years) + pension via salary sacrifice + flexible benefits (discounts, buy/sell leave, cycle to work, healthcare plans).

Our client, a leading local government services provider, is hiring a Management Accountant to partner with service leaders, provide robust analysis and drive informed decision-making across Economy & Environment and Corporate Services.

What you’ll do

• Lead management accounting for allocated service areas—budget setting, monthly forecasting, monitoring, grant/stat return prep and year-end close.
• Produce accurate, evidence-based variance analysis and narratives to agreed timelines; report on KPIs within the SLA.
• Build strong relationships with budget holders; provide clear, customer-focused advice.
• Manage and develop a small team—workload prioritisation, 1:1s, training and performance.
• Improve processes and systems (incl. contributions to financial systems development) to streamline delivery.

What we’re looking for

• Significant experience in a finance/accounting environment, including supervising or managing staff.
• Track record in budgeting, forecasting and meeting year-end deadlines.
• Excellent analysis, written and verbal communication; strong Excel. Experience with Unit4 Business World is a plus.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and manage multiple deadlines in a changing environment.
• Professional qualification (ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA) or nearly qualified.
