JOB TITLE: Quality Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Quality

LOCATION: North West, UK

TEMP/PERM: Contractor – outside IR35 - 6 Months

HOURS/SHIFTS: 37 hours - Monday to Friday

REPORTS TO: Head of Quality


ROLE SUMMARY

As Quality Engineer, you will primarily be responsible for driving the quality performance of the organisation’s production operations, focusing on establishing effective quality and process controls which strive for world-class levels of customer quality and reduced waste throughout the manufacturing value stream.

The role will also support the effective implementation of the Business Management System and new products and processes, working with internal stakeholders to standardise methodologies and ensure compliance to documented procedures in the manufacturing facility.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete the day-to-day responsibilities of the Quality function in the client’s manufacturing value stream.
  • Utilise standardised Quality and Process Engineering tools and processes to ensure that all Quality activities are completed accurately and consistently across the organisation.
  • Lead the implementation of effective APQP processes within the value stream team to which you are allocated to support.
  • Complete the PFMEA and Control Plan activities for all production processes.
  • Develop, implement and maintain robust process controls which support effective product and process quality.
  • Monitor and analyse manufacturing process data, identifying and proposing solutions for continuous quality improvement.
  • Drive quality performance improvements within the production process.
  • Provide Quality support and troubleshooting expertise to resolve process-related issues and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) through improvements to right-first-time performance.
  • Complete the Quality Engineering responsibilities associated with the introduction of new products and processes, working collaboratively with all functions as needed.
  • Lead the response to Customer Quality Concerns, driving a thorough and comprehensive root cause analysis approach with supporting corrective actions and preventive measures, utilising tools such as 8D, PPS, and DMAIC as appropriate.
  • Lead the processing and problem-solving of production scrap via the effective utilisation of the MRB process.
  • Manage Supplier Quality issues identified within the value stream to which you are allocated to support.
  • Support the utilisation of the Business Management System for the Quality function.
  • Develop and implement written procedures and organisational policies for the Quality function.
  • Routinely report on Quality KPIs.
  • Support the development and implementation of the annual improvement plan for the Quality function.
  • Manage and execute the annual external and internal audit schedule.
  • Manage and execute lab testing for quality control of manufactured materials.
  • Support the continuous improvement of the Quality function.
  • Ensure safety, environmental and regulatory compliance requirements for Quality activities are met.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in quality management technologies, methodologies and best practices.
  • Support the completion of Lean improvement events and activities from a Quality Engineering perspective.
  • Perform process capability studies, statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making to drive operational excellence and enable production to meet targets.
  • Identify and implement process control measures, including statistical process control (SPC) techniques, to ensure consistent quality and reduce process variation.


Other Responsibilities

  • Develop close working relationships with the value stream team to which you are allocated to support.
  • Carry out any other reasonable requests and tasks as required.


KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Significant Quality experience in a complex AS9100 Rev D or ISO9001 managed manufacturing environment.
  • Experienced in the use of standard Quality management methodologies including APQP, PPAP, PSW, FAIR, ISIR, SPC, and Control Plans.
  • Knowledge and experience in the execution of material testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex process issues.
  • Working knowledge of process safety, risk assessment and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interrogate engineering drawings including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

  • Good knowledge of APQP processes and tools including PPAP, PSW, PFMEA, Control Plans and Standard Ops.
  • Experienced with the use of CMM measuring technology.
  • Experience with the design and implementation of new processes.
  • Experience with standard project management tools, such as Microsoft Project Gantt charts and Project Charters.
