CNC Programmer / Setter‑Operator

Precision Engineering – South Glos – Permanent – Full‑Time – Salary DOE

Precision Engineering is a cutting-edge subcontract machining business serving aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, medical, and precision industries.

We’re seeking a highly capable CNC Programmer / Setter‑Operator to join our team, specialising in programming, setup, and operation of CNC lathes with live tooling. If you're hands-on, technically sharp, and ready to drive quality and efficiency, this could be your ideal role.

The Role:

·       Create and optimise part programs at the machine control on our Doosan twin-spindle lathes with live tooling

·       Set up and run the machines—load tools, align workholding, adjust offsets, and validate setups

·       Monitor and adjust machining parameters in real time to maximize performance and part quality

·       Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and 3D models

·       Perform first-off inspections, troubleshoot rejects, and make necessary corrections

·       Collaborate with process engineering and quality teams to refine operations

·       Assist in tooling selection, tooling changes, and tool library management

·       Follow change control procedures, maintain setup sheets, and update CNC documentation

·       Participate in continuous improvement efforts to boost productivity, reduce scrap, and shorten cycle times

·       Maintain machine cleanliness, safety checks, and basic preventative upkeep

The Person:

·       Strong experience programming and operating CNC lathes with live tooling, especially on Fanuc-controlled systems

·       Proven ability to work at the control (i.e. not only offline CAM programming)

·       Good mechanical aptitude, able to set up machines, align tooling, and troubleshoot issues

·       Capability in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing tolerances

·       Attention to detail and commitment to part quality

·       Effective communicator and team player—able to work closely with engineers, quality, and shop floor staff

·       Willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute ideas for process improvement

Desirable Extras:

·       Experience with twin-spindle, bar-fed, or multi-spindle CNC lathes

·       Prior experience in aerospace or regulated industries

·       Familiarity with tooling systems, toolholders, and advanced tool management

·       Exposure to CAM software or programming in addition to on-machine programming
